The Team

The administrative team is an established and trusted group led by the Wardens Assistant and made up of six clerks who are the first point of contact in the correctional centre. They take pride in creating a respectful supportive and inclusive work environment where everyone’s contributions are valued. The team works collaboratively across departments to ensure daily operations run smoothly providing professional and confidential support while fostering a culture of trust, dependability and teamwork.

The Role

This position plays a key role in creating a welcoming and safe environment by providing frontline reception and confidential administrative support to diverse clients, including individuals who may be experiencing stress, mental health needs or difficult life circumstances. The role involves respectful communication, accurate information‑sharing and maintaining sensitive records while upholding dignity, privacy and cultural awareness. By ensuring clients feel heard, supported and treated fairly, this position helps foster inclusive and trauma‑informed service delivery for all members of the community.

Qualifications
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Secondary School graduation and 6 months of related experience working in a clerical, secretarial, receptionist or administrative support role; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of 30 words per minute (WPM) in keyboarding.
Preference may be given to applicants with:
  • More than 6 months of related experience working in a clerical, secretarial, receptionist or administrative support role.
  • Successful completion of a post‑secondary certificate program or course in office administration.
  • Experience working in an office setting providing services within the Justice System (Court Services, Correctional Centre BC, Prosecution Services, Youth Justice, legal office, justice‑focused non‑profit).
  • A valid Class 5 BC drivers licence without restrictions or an equivalent Canadian drivers licence. A valid BC Class 7 may be considered.

There is currently a temporary opportunity available until 05/14/2027; this temporary opportunity may become permanent.
