Job summary

A regional healthcare provider in Cape Breton is seeking a Clinical Therapist to provide school mental health services. This role requires a Master's degree and two years of clinical experience. About the Opportunity

The social worker will report to the Manager of Child and Adolescent Mental Health & Addiction Services, however will have shared responsibilities with both the NSHA & the Conseil scolaire acadien provincial (CSAP). The social worker will provide school mental health services directly in the school environment within the designated Schools Plus schools (NDA, Cheticamp, and Etoile de L’Acadie, Sydney). The school mental health clinician is a team player and works flexibly to best meet the needs of clients and the service. The school mental health clinician is able to create and provide evidence-based educational presentations to clients, families, other agencies, and fellow staff members on topics relating to mental health and concurrent disorders. Grand rounds presentations are required as part of this job. Flexibility in hours of work may be required depending on patient care.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Master’s degree in a clinical health‑related discipline (Masters in Social Work, Psychology (Registered, Masters), Masters in Counseling, Masters in Nursing, Masters in Occupational Therapy)
  • Current registration with a relevant provincial regulatory body
  • Two years’ related clinical experience required (including assessment and planning, treatment and intervention and discharge planning)
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the standard criteria used (DSM V) for the classification and diagnosis of mental health disorders.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in providing individual and group evidence‑informed therapies based on care plan to clients with mental illness, substance use disorders, and/or concurrent disorders
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in collaborating with families in relation to sharing information, and implementing family‑sensitive services that involve families in the care and recovery of people living mental illness and addiction.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in crisis intervention, suicide and violence risk assessment/ intervention
  • Non‑violent crisis intervention and Suicide Risk Assessment preferred
  • Demonstrated awareness of community resources and programs.
  • Excellent problem‑solving, organizational and prioritization skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks
  • High level of written/ oral/ interpersonal communication skills; experience with conflict resolution
  • Ability to work effectively in multiple software applications required
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, work independently with limited supervision and participate as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Please note this is a French Speaking Position

Minimum two (2) years of clinical experience required. If not available, candidates with less than two (2) years of experience may be considered for the selection process. If offered employment, they will be placed on the Clinical Therapist (Developmental) scale.

Hours
  • Permanent, Full‑Time; 75 hours bi‑weekly
Compensation And Benefits

Clinical Therapist: $42.21 - $56.88 hourly

Clinical Therapist (Developmental): $37.64 - $48.72 hourly
