Job summary

Nova Scotia Health is seeking a Clinical Therapist for Child & Adolescent Mental Health & Addictions in Sydney, NS. You will deliver time-limited psycho-social assessments and evidence-based treatments to youth up to 19 within a stepped-care framework, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.

You will engage in ethical practice, participate in a consultation group, and apply disorders-based care pathways while considering diversity and inclusion in all interactions.

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in a clinical health-related discipline (Masters in Social Work, Psychology, Masters in Counseling, Masters in Nursing, or Masters in Occupational Therapy).
  • Current registration with relevant provincial regulatory body or eligible
  • Minimum two (2) years' licensed related experience including assessment and planning, treatment and intervention, and discharge planning
  • In-depth and critical understanding of harm reduction, addiction dynamics, and evidence-based interventions for treatment of addiction
  • Knowledge of DSM-5 criteria for classification and diagnosis of mental health disorders
  • Knowledge and skills in individual/group cognitive behavioral therapy and psycho-educational groups
  • Knowledge and skills in crisis intervention, suicide, and violence risk assessment/intervention
  • Basic competencies in identifying and treating concurrent mental health and substance use disorders
  • Experience interviewing, counseling, and teaching health concepts to individuals, families, and groups
  • Knowledge and skills collaborating with families for family-sensitive services in care and recovery

Responsibilities

  • Deliver time-limited, evidence-based psycho-social assessments and treatments to youth (≤19) with Tier-3 mental disorders and substance use disorders.
  • Maintain professional and ethical practice, following codes of ethics and guidelines relevant to clinical practice.
  • Participate in a consultation group to support collegiality, accountability and effectiveness of assessments and treatments.

About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager, Child & Adolescent Outpatient - Mental Health & Addictions, the Clinical Therapist, as a member of a multi-disciplinary team, is responsible for the delivery of time-limited, evidence-based psycho-social assessments and treatments to adults (19 years and younger) with Tier-3 mental disorders and Substance Use Disorders. All services are provided within a Stepped Care framework and practice is guided by disorder-based clinical care pathways. Each clinician participates in a consultation group to ensure collegial support, accountability, and effectiveness of assessments and treatments.

It is an expectation that the Clinical Therapist will act in a professional and ethical manner, following all recognized codes of ethics, standards, legislation, and guidelines relevant to clinical practice and profession. They will convey respect and a solid understanding of subtle and complex diversity and inclusion issues as they relate to specific groups.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Master’s Degree in a clinical health-related discipline (Masters in Social Work, Psychology, Masters in Counseling, Masters in Nursing, or Masters in Occupational Therapy)
  • Current registration with relevant provincial regulatory body or eligible
  • Minimum two (2) years'licensed related experience required including assessment and planning, treatment and intervention, and discharge planning
  • In-depth and critical understanding of the principles of harm reduction, the dynamics of addiction, and evidence-based interventions for the treatment of addiction
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of standard criteria used (DSM-5)for the classification and diagnosis of mental health disorders
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in individual/ group cognitive behavioral therapy as well as psycho-educational groups
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in crisis intervention, suicide, and violence risk assessment/ intervention
  • Basic competencies in relation to identifying and treating concurrent mental health and substance use disorders
  • Experience in interviewing, counseling, and teaching health concepts to individuals, families, and groups
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in collaborating with families in relation to sharing information, and implementing family-sensitive services that involve families in the care and recovery of people living with mental illness and addiction
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Minimum two (2) years of licensed clinical experience required. If not available, candidates with less than two (2) years of licensed experience may be considered for the selection process. If offered employment, they will be placed on the developmental pay scale.

$42.21 - $58.30 Hourly

$37.64 - $49.94 Hourly
