Responsibilities
  • Provides clinical expertise, consultation and leadership in evidence-based practice for the designated clinical area; reviews literature, collaborates with interdisciplinary teams, evaluates practice and recommends changes to standards.
  • Role models and demonstrates direct client care skills to staff; ensures compliance with standards of practice and supports staff to provide high-quality care.
  • Provides leadership and consultation to staff on implementing and evaluating client care plans; liaises with community resources and provides staff with referral options.
  • Promotes client self-care, illness prevention and health promotion strategies; evaluates outcomes and maintains reference material.
  • Develops and revises delegation of task procedures; provides leadership in delegation of tasks for the designated clinical area.
  • Develops, implements, evaluates and revises education, orientation and professional development programs for staff; conducts learning needs assessments.
  • Identifies resources to assist in management of complex client/family health issues and makes recommendations as required.
  • Updates course curricula for teaching and facilitating groups in the designated clinical area to meet revised educational needs and best practices.
  • Participates in quality improvement and risk management activities; consults with the Manager prior to changes in practice.
  • Contributes to dissemination of information, standards, policies and guidelines for the designated clinical area.
  • Participates in research and special projects; collects and interprets data and provides input for further analysis.
  • Sets measurable performance goals and participates on professional committees to advocate for the clinical area.
  • Participates in staff selection and performance evaluation as requested.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education and Experience

Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse and/or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). Three (3) years of recent related clinical experience in the designated clinical area, including one (1) year in an educational/leadership role, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Post-graduate coursework or certification applicable to the designated clinical area is preferred.

Valid BC Driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle for business-related purposes.

  • Knowledge of Home Support policies within the program management structure of Home Health.
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and critical thinking.
  • Knowledge of nursing theory and evidence-based practice.
  • Ability to develop, implement and revise education/training and orientation programs.
  • Ability to provide leadership through modeling, coaching and mentoring.
  • Ability to instruct others and facilitate learning of staff and/or clients/families.
  • Effective verbal and written communication with clients, co-workers, families and service providers.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Ability to develop rapport with staff, clients and stakeholders; resolve problems and manage conflict.
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work in a changing environment.
  • Ability to operate related equipment and software applications.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
