Job summary

South Country Co-op is hiring a Pharmacist for the Northlands Pharmacy location in Medicine Hat, AB. Reporting to the Pharmacy Manager, you will support daily operations, deliver patient‑focused care, perform dispensing duties, and provide counselling and immunizations as part of a collaborative team. You hold a B.Sc.Phm.

or Pharm.D. and Alberta College of Pharmacy registration, with APA considered or obtainable within six months.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (B.Sc.Phm.) or Pharm.D. and Alberta College of Pharmacy registration.
• Preference for Additional Prescribing Authority (APA) or willingness to obtain within 6 months of hire.
• Familiarity with Kroll pharmacy system preferred.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word/Outlook/Excel).
• Demonstrates leadership, integrity and professional ethics.
• Able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing and work well in a diverse team.

Responsibilities

• Assist Pharmacy Manager with overall operations of the Pharmacy department.
• Deliver world‑class customer service and manage dispensing duties for prescriptions.
• Order and stock pharmaceuticals and ensure dispensing accuracy.
• Provide clinical services, counselling, and immunizations as needed.
• Supervise Pharmacy Assistants and Technicians to ensure high standards.
• Develop strong relationships with health care professionals to support patient care.

What you’ll do:

Reporting to the Pharmacy Manager, the Pharmacist is responsible for assisting the Pharmacy Manager with the overall operations of the Pharmacy department. Responsibilities include delivering world-class customer service, ordering and stocking pharmaceuticals, filling patient prescriptions, and providing information to customers. Our Pharmacists provide patient-focused care, including clinical services, counselling and professional advice on prescriptions and OTC products, and administering injections and immunizations.

• Obtain, interpret, and evaluate all prescriptions to ensure therapeutic appropriateness, cost-effectiveness, accuracy and completeness.
• Develop and maintain strong working relationships with health care professionals in the community to ensure optimal patient care.
• Supervise Pharmacy Assistants and Technicians.
• Oversee all dispensing duties carried out by a Pharmacy Assistant to ensure the accuracy and effectiveness of all prescription dispensed.
• Ensure all medication dispensing processes are accurate and appropriately managed.

Who you are:

You are looking for a career in Pharmacy and:

• You have a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (B.Sc.Phm.) or a Doctorate in Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) from a recognized institution and are registered with the Alberta College of Pharmacy
• Preference is given to those with Additional Prescribing Authority (APA) designation or willingness to obtain within 6 months of hire
• You’re familiar with the Kroll pharmacy system (preferred)
• Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (including Word, Outlook, and Excel)
• Strong leadership skills with a high level of integrity and work ethic
• Ability to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times
