The Clinical Operations Manager (COM) provides clinical and site administrative leadership during the evening and night shifts during the week and on weekends, weekend day shifts and statutory holidays. The COM uses clinical experience, knowledge and leadership skills to promote quality care, utilization of best practices consistent with current legislation, organizational policies and procedures, and the organization’s Mission, Vision, Values, Ethics and strategic directions.

Skills And Qualifications Required
  • Current and unrestricted registration with the Ontario professional college of discipline, or eligibility to obtain, or a Medical Professional from diverse educational backgrounds
  • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing preferred
  • Minimum one year of experience managing clinical staff in a hospital setting; recent, relevant supervisory experience may be considered
  • Education and experience in mentoring clinical unionized staff, preferred
Position Responsibilities
  • Acts as a resource for the interprofessional team regarding policies, procedures and clinical practice
  • Ensures that standards of care are in accordance with the Practice Standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Working closely with the Program Managers, ensures that complaints from patients/clients, families, the public, and staff are addressed promptly and appropriately
  • Acts as Officer-In-Charge during evenings, nights, weekends and statutory holidays, as the on-site management representative responsible for the effective utilization of human and other resources responsible for assuring quality of care, safety and security of a highly vulnerable, at-risk client populations served
  • Reviews and contributes to developing recommendations related to Providence Care Centre (PCC) risk management initiatives in collaboration with the clinical and support services teams
  • Participates in incident analysis reviews, complaint investigations, and incident debriefings.
  • Reviews, completes assessment and any required follow up of all risk management software entries (SafetEnet) while on duty
  • Provides clinical education (as necessary and able), in collaboration with Clinical Educators, acting as a resource for new or current staff
  • Manages emergency situations according to established policies, procedures and practices (e.g. missing patients, fire, bomb threat, etc.)
  • Replaces and/or reallocates staff to meet the needs of each unit in collaboration with the Staff Scheduling office
  • Managers problems that arise in relation to employee health, in the absence of the Occupational Health Nurse; including providing first aid (if able and appropriate), sending staff home or to acute care Emergency Services and completing WSIB forms, etc.
  • Communicates with other departments or services in the hospital regarding any issues that may arise after hours
