The salary range for this position is CAD $49.20 - $67.08 / hour.

Job Summary

We are hiring a Relief Part Time Clinical Nurse Educator, Simulation to join our team in the Fraser North Region, covering areas for RCH, BH, RMH, and ERH.

Detailed Overview

In accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice and the Mission and Values of Fraser Health, the Clinical Nurse Educator, Simulation utilizes evidence-informed practice and education theory to develop educational programs that will achieve the most effective outcomes, and deliver formal group or individual educational activities to staff and patients/clients/residents/families. Measures education plan success and amends plans accordingly. Participates in research, policy, quality improvement, and risk management activities. The Clinical Nurse Educator, Simulation performs their duties with a unit, hospital, program and/or regional focus and may be required to work at multiple sites across Fraser Health.

Responsibilities
  • Determines simulation education priorities that meet clinical and learner needs, in collaboration with the Manager/Director and Professional Practice; completes learning needs assessments of individuals or groups to assist in the determination of the educational requirements and their objectives.
  • Develops, revises and supports, in collaboration with Professional Practice, innovative simulation education programs and materials for simulation education, including identifying learning goals and outcomes, teaching/learning strategies, and evaluative tools and processes. Works with clinical content experts (e.g. physicians, clinical staff) to design scenarios that meet specifications; provides consultation and support to clinical staff regarding simulation methodology in educational programs, using clinical evidence, policy (e.g. clinical decision support tools), literature and resources, and education theory.
  • Creates supportive and interprofessional learning environments; utilizes education theory and builds strong professional relationships with learners in order to facilitate open communication.
  • Plans and schedules simulation educational activities, monitors utilization, and maintains a system for tracking activities and attendance; maintains statistics for reporting purposes.
  • Delivers learner-centered simulation education to individuals or groups of staff through methods such as applying clinical and technical knowledge to effectively operate high-fidelity simulators during training events, setting up/taking down the simulation rooms, simulators and equipment needed for training events (e.g. anaesthesia machine, ventilator, defibrillator), creating/obtaining peripherals to support scenarios (e.g. mock EHR, x-ray/MRI images, lab results), and working with applicable staff to troubleshoot equipment.
  • Evaluates simulation education program effectiveness by measuring the outcomes, determining whether the clinical objectives have been achieved, and assessing whether learning has occurred that results in the demonstration of best practices.
  • Participates in quality improvement and risk management activities by methods such as evaluating effect of changes in practice, generating recommendations for alternative approaches to practices, conducting safety audits, and implementing teaching/learning when required.
  • Participates in research and special projects; promotes staff awareness and involvement in research activities.
  • Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders, participates on a variety of designated professional or operational committees at the unit, hospital, program and/or regional level.
  • Organizes and maintains clinical/medical simulation supply inventory and assists the Manager/Director by providing feedback on new and replacement of simulation equipment and providing input into simulation program goals and objectives.
  • Participates in the review, development, implementation and evaluation of evidence-informed clinical decisions support tools/policies.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). Three (3) years of recent related health care simulation experience, including one (1) year of education and/or leadership experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Completion of post graduate course work and/or certification applicable to clinical simulation education: including Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) certification or in process of writing exam, advanced simulation educator/debriefing courses such as Simulation Learning Strategies, Simulation Educator Training (SET), and Critical Care or Emergency Speciality Certification.

Valid BC Driver's License and access to personal vehicle for business-related purposes, as required.
