Under the direction of the Clinical Manager, the Clinical Information Specialist I (CIRSI) provides consultative service and advice in poison and toxicology via telephone to both the public and health care professionals in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and the Northwest Territories. CIRSI may also provide information related to occupational toxicology. CIRSI working at PADIS have either a pharmacy or nursing background.
As a Clinical Information Resource Specialist I with the Poison and Drug Information Service (PADIS) team, you will provide expert consultative services regarding poison and toxicology, and occupational toxicology via telephone to both the public and health care professionals. In the CIRSI position, you will extract, interpret, and summarize the most up-to-date medical resources and latest research when providing information, treatment options and recommendations about exposure to poisons, chemicals or toxins, prescription and over the counter medications.
Completion of bachelor's degree in Nursing or Pharmacy. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable college. Emergency/ICU or critical care nursing experience and/or drug information background.
The successful candidate is required to have the following: For Pharmacists: Baccalaureate degree in pharmacy. Current registration in good standing with Alberta College of Pharmacists (ACP) and Northwest Territories DHSS Professional Licensing Office. 3 years hospital or clinical pharmacy experience required within the last 5 years. For Registered Nurses: Baccalaureate degree in nursing preferred. Current registration in good standing with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). The successful candidate will require licensure in Northwest Territories and Nunavut (RNANT/NU) and Saskatchewan (CRNS) with more information provided upon hire. 3 years Acute Care experience required within the last 5 years. Additional General Required Qualifications for all applicants: Creative, flexible, well-organized, and demonstrated systems thinker. Excellent communication & interpersonal skills including providing peer feedback. Demonstrated ability to mentor and coach staff. A minimum typing speed of 35 WPM. Intermediate computer skills and literacy is a requirement for this position. Certified Specialist in Poison Information (CSPI) designation is an asset.
Strong clinical assessment skills and working knowledge of pharmacy. Proven ability to build and foster reciprocal relationships and build consensus. Proven ability to work collaboratively with team members, peers and both internal and external stakeholders. Demonstrated independence. Emergency and/or Critical Care experience for registered nurses, preferably within the last 5 years.
