Bethany Care Society in Calgary is seeking a Clinical Educator to lead clinical education initiatives across Bethany communities, ensuring competency and practice readiness. Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Nursing preferred; LPN diploma may be considered.
  • Degree or Certificate in Adult Education preferred.
  • 3–5 years nursing experience in gerontology and/or dementia care preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Promotes service excellence through leading and coordinating the assessment, planning, design, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of clinical education programs and policies.
  • Identifies education and competency needs using quality indicators, clinical competency assessment, documentation review, incident trends, admission profiles, practice change requirements, regulatory standards, and leader feedback.
  • Tracks completion of required learning and competencies, interprets completion trends, and escalates non-compliance to the CSM and Site Administrator for supervisory follow-up.
  • Contributes education expertise to Bethany's IQM system and participates in site QSC meetings.

About The Role:The Clinical Educator is a corporate practice and clinical education leader within Bethany's Integrated Quality Management (IQM) system. The Clinical Educator leads clinical practice development initiatives that strengthen clinical competency, support evidence-informed care, and advance a culture of continuous learning and quality improvement across Bethany communities.Acting as a subject matter expert, this position is accountable for the design, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of compulsory and clinical education through competency-development activities that support safe, competent, and resident-centered care across Bethany communities in accordance with the Philosophy of Caring, accreditation standards, provincial continuing care standards, and organizational policies.The role functions as an organizational clinical education and practice support resource, collaborating with management and internal stakeholders to build and sustain competence for multidisciplinary teams in required clinical practice areas, including, documentation, policy implementation, and care processes.The Clinical Educator provides timely, responsive education to address emerging priorities and learning needs across frontline teams.What You Will Do:Clinical Education and Competency Planning:Promotes service excellence through leading and coordinating the assessment, planning, design, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of clinical education programs and policies that support safe, resident-centred care across Bethany communities.Provides leadership in the development, coordination, and evaluation of education plans at the organizational, site and neighbourhood/program levels, in collaboration with Care Services Managers (CSMs), Site Administrators and Quality Practice Leaders (QPLs).Identifies education and competency needs using quality indicators, clinical competency assessment, documentation review, incident trends, admission profiles, practice change requirements, regulatory standards, and leader feedback.Ensures clinical education meets or exceeds provincial standards (CCHSS Section 9.0), accreditation Standards (e.g. CARF Aging Services), professional regulatory requirements, and applicable collective agreement requirements.Maintains proactive on-unit and neighbourhood presence for practice observation, just-in-time guidance, documentation review, and education needs identification, particularly for newly admitted residents with individual care requirements.Ensures adherence to Bethany policies and procedures pertaining to the design, delivery, and evaluation of education programs and services.Mandatory Education and Practice-Readiness:Provides organizational leadership and subject matter expertise mandatory clinical education and practice-readiness expectations across Bethany communities.Coordinates corporate mandatory clinical education requirements and associated learning resources for Bethany care teams, including monitoring the transfer of learning into clinical practice to support competency, consistency, and practice readiness across communities.Supports the definition and operationalization of practice-readiness expectations for clinical tasks, equipment, treatments, documentation, and specialized resident needs.Provides subject-matter support for the implementation of new or revised clinical policies, standards, workflows, and tools.Tracks completion of required learning and competencies, interprets completion trends, and escalates non-compliance to the CSM and Site Administrator for supervisory follow-up.Integrated Quality Management:Contributes education expertise to Bethany's IQM system in alignment with Progress 2030, professional association and legislative/regulatory guidelines.Participates in site Quality Safety Committee (QSC) meetings, contributing education expertise and supporting quality improvement planning.Supports audit readiness (CARF, AB CCHSS) by ensuring education programs address standards compliance and contributing to continuous readiness activities.Uses quality data, RAI-MDS indicators, incident trends, and audit findings to inform education priorities and program design.Collaborates with QPLs to align education programming with quality monitoring findings and organizational improvement priorities.Participates in organizational committees and working groups within the IQM governance structure as appropriate.Documentation, Education Systems, and Reporting:Accurate, comprehensive, and timely documentation of education records, statistics, evaluations, and reports to support governance reporting and IQM monitoring.Maintains accurate, comprehensive education records, attendance, evaluations, and program outcomes in BethanyU and other designated systems.Supports improvement of education tracking systems and standardized approaches to competency documentation.Prepares education plans, reports, evaluations, and synopses of educational programs for site leadership and the Manager, RAI Program & Clinical Education.Ensures attendance and statistical data from all clinical education programs required are complete, accurate, current, and timely.Safety:Contributes to a safe environment for residents, the team, and self by understanding, modelling, and supporting safety guidelines and practices at all times.Identifies and reports unsafe conditions in the work environment; supports staff education in emergency preparedness.Ensures education programs address safe work practices, infection prevention and control, body mechanics, and the safe and correct operation of equipment, assistive devices, and medical
