Job description

The Clinical Coding Specialist is responsible for establishing and maintaining high-quality Diagnosis-Related Group (DRG) coding standards. This role oversees daily coding operations, clinical coding audits, staff development, project management, and continuous improvement initiatives to ensure clinical coding accurately reflects the institution’s clinical efforts and enables optimum reimbursement.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee clinical coding operations to ensure accurate abstraction of diagnosis and procedures, and timely Casemix data submission to the Ministry of Health.
  • Conduct clinical coding audits and generate regular performance dashboards to monitor clinical coding quality and turnaround time.
  • Set key performance indicators for coding accuracies, timeliness, and team productivity, and drive the team to achieve these targets.
  • Develop and deliver clinical coding training programmes and materials to upskill clinical coders in handling ophthalmology cases of varying complexity and support continuing education.
  • Manage manpower allocation, workload distribution and operational processes to ensure smooth daily coding operations.
  • Collaborate effectively with clinicians and other stakeholders to resolve coding-related issues. Lead and support departmental improvement projects and initiatives.
  • Oversee departmental assets and support downtime management planning to ensure operational readiness.
  • Foster team cohesiveness and promote a culture of continuous improvement and high standards in coding practice.
Job Requirements
  • Degree in Medical Science, Allied Health Science, or equivalent.
  • At least 3 years of experience in clinical coding and audit, and at least 1 year in staff supervision.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Site, especially in Excel (Pivot Table, VLOOKUP) and PowerPoint.
  • Skilled in data analysis, dashboard reporting, administration, people management, and project management.
  • Strong command in English and sound knowledge in medical terminology.
  • Organized, resourceful, meticulous, analytical, and performance driven.

Note: Remuneration Package will commensurate with qualifications and working experiences.
