A Day In The Life Of a Courtesy Clerk

As a customer yourself, you know how important it is that checkout service is fast, accurate, and friendly. The impression shoppers get at the front end of the store is key to building customer loyalty. That is why Courtesy Clerks bagging and taking groceries to customers’ cars play such an important role in the success of our stores. Experience is not necessary and training is provided.

No previous experience required.

Key Responsibilities

• Upholds and complies with company procedures, standards and policies in all situations
• Greets customers in a polite and friendly manner
• Demonstrates superior customer service in accordance with Safeway’s programs
• Wraps and places merchandise in bags/carts
• Ensures cleanliness of the store’s front end
• Collects and returns shopping carts
• Returns store product
• Provides grocery carry‑outs for customers
• Sweeps floors
• Performs price checks as required

• Ability to learn quickly

Physical Requirements

• Frequent lifting of up to 10‑30 pounds
• Occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs including waist level and low level lifts
• Constant walking, reaching and balancing
• Frequent hand coordination, standing, bending, pushing or pulling
• Occasionally working outside in variable conditions
