Qualicum School District in Canada is seeking a Clerical Spare / On Call Casual to support multiple schools and departments. The role involves relief clerical work across reception, filing, and general office functions as needed.

The position carries no guaranteed hours and calls are dispatched by the on-site clerk. Candidates should be available for calls between early morning hours and may be rotated for dispatch across sites.

Qualifications

• High school graduation or equivalent.
• A diploma in office administration or related coursework, or a minimum of six months experience.
• Proficiency with district word processing and spreadsheet software.
• Keyboarding speed of 50 words per minute.
• Ability to operate standard office equipment and follow instructions.
• Good interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Performs switchboard and reception duties.
• Performs general office tasks including filing, ordering supplies, typing correspondence and reports.
• Maintains basic bookkeeping duties including deposits, petty cash, receipts and cheques.
• Supports library clerical duties as instructed.
• Receives and distributes mail.
• May use specialized computer programs as requested.
• Performs other job-related duties.

JOB TITLE:

Clerical Spare / On Call Casual

JOB FUNCTION:

An employee in this classification performs a variety of clerical services on a relief basis to schools and various departments.

REPORTING TO:

Supervisor at the work site.

Illustrative Examples Of Work

• Performs switchboard and reception duties.
• Performs general office duties including filing, ordering supplies, and typing correspondence and reports.
• Performs general bookkeeping duties including bank deposits, petty cash, receipts and cheques.
• Performs clerical duties for libraries as instructed by the librarian or supervisor.
• Receives and distributes mail.
• May use specialized computer programs as requested.
• Performs other job related duties.

Required Abilities And Qualifications

• High school graduation or certificate equivalent.
• A diploma in office administration or related course work, or a minimum of six months experience performing similar duties.
• Competence using current district word processing software to an intermediate level and the current district spreadsheet software to an introductory level as demonstrated by successful completion of appropriate courses at a recognized institution.
• Keyboarding speed of 50 cwpm.
• Ability to operate standard office equipment, follow oral instructions, and work with a minimum of supervision.
• Good interpersonal skills.

Additional Information

This position has no guarantee of hours. Spares shall make themselves available for calls from the dispatch clerk between 6:45am - 8:45am Monday and Friday. Spares are called in rotational order for dispatch.
