Overview

Clerical / Administrative Support (Temporary)

The City of St. John’s is accepting applications for temporary Clerical/Administrative Support assignments for various departments. A relief pool of candidates will be created from which qualified individuals will be called upon to work on a temporary basis for short periods of vacation, sick leave, or any other type of leave depending upon the requirements of various departments.

Responsibilities
  • Provides clerical and administrative support within City divisions. Duties may vary based upon position assignment.
  • Participate in all training programs applicable to this position and other related work.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma supplemented by successful completion of a recognized business administration, office administration, records management, accounting, or secretarial program.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; typing and filing skills.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment, problem solve, and display courtesy and tact in dealing with the public.
  • Ability to quickly learn the operation of required equipment; follow verbal and written instructions accurately and quickly; establish good communications with City Departments.
  • Successful candidates must attain a minimum of 45 words per minute and demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel on simulation tests administered by the City of St. John’s prior to hiring.

Hours and Conditions
  • Hours of work vary based on assignment. Each assignment would consist of a 33.75 or 40 hour work week.
  • Applicants must be members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 1289, or should be prepared to join the Union immediately upon appointment.
