Job description

Job Summary

As a member of the BGIS Sustainable Cleaning Solutions Team, you will be generally responsible for cleaning in a designated zone with an emphasis on quality control, health and safety and striving to exceed client expectations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clean floors by sweeping, scrubbing, or vacuuming
  • Dry/wet mop (wash/scrub) and polish hard surface floors. (The washing/scrubbing of floors is done with handheld or auto scrubbers. In large open applications, automatic equipment may be used to perform these functions)
  • Strip and finish hard surface floors manually or with power equipment when required
  • Transport garbage from drop points to garbage bins or compactor
  • Transport maintenance machinery, where necessary, between floors and job sites
  • Cleans and stores equipment and machinery used
  • Cleans glass areas requiring ladders, scaffolding or other extension equipment to reach
  • Cleans washroom floors including stripping and finishing
  • Cleans stairwells and elevator cabs where ladders are required
  • Loads and unloads supplies and replenishes cleaning solutions
  • Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures
  • Other duties that management may assign
  • Steam clean or shampoo carpets
  • Notify managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems
  • Mix water and detergents in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications
  • Remove snow and debris from sidewalks, driveways, or parking areas, using snowplows, snow blowers, or snow shovels, or spread snow melting chemicals
Job Requirements
  • Experience in performing various cleaning, housekeeping and maintenance activities in an institutionalized environment.
  • Experience in using floor maintenance machines, cleaning equipment, materials and solutions.
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the provisions that apply to this work including WHMIS.
  • Ability to lift, push and pull heavy items as well as climb ladders.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, clients and the general public.
  • Ability and willingness to work weekends, holidays and shifts as assigned as well as work in multiple locations.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions, prepare and maintain manual and electronic records.
Licenses and/or Professional Accreditation
  • Must meet security clearance requirements, where applicable
  • Must have a valid Class G license (may be required)

Salary

This is a regular, full-time or part-time position with a salary range of $17.60 - $20.88 per hour. The starting salary will be based on the successful candidate’s competencies, including but not limited to experience, education and performance related to this role.
