Milestone Equipment Contracting Inc. is seeking a versatile Class 1 Driver / Heavy Equipment Operator on Vancouver Island. The role combines safe truck operation with skilled equipment handling, supporting site activities and coordinating with the team to keep projects moving.

The ideal candidate will have a Class 1 licence, experience with tandem dumps and pony trailers, and familiarity with excavators, loaders, dozers, and other heavy equipment. A positive, team-oriented attitude is essential.

Qualifications

• Previous experience operating heavy equipment on civil construction projects.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate tandem dump trucks and trucks with pony trailers to move materials.
• Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, loaders, dozers as required by project needs.
• Assist with loading, unloading, and placing materials on site.
• Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections and safety checks.
• Maintain equipment cleanliness and report maintenance needs.
• Coordinate with dispatch, site supervisors, and crew to plan daily activities.
• Follow safety procedures and company policies, maintain documentation.

About the Role

We're looking for someone who can do more than just drive a truck!

The ideal candidate is an experienced Class 1 Driver who is also comfortable operating heavy equipment and willing to lend a hand wherever needed to keep projects moving.

This is a hands-on, varied role suited to someone who enjoys working in civil construction, takes pride in their work, and understands that getting the job done often means being flexible and working together as a team.

Your primary responsibility will be operating tandem dump trucks and trucks with pony trailers to transport materials to and from construction sites. However, depending on project needs, you may also operate excavators, loaders, dozers, or other heavy equipment, and assist with general site activities.

We're looking for someone with a positive attitude, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to pitch in wherever needed.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Safely operate tandem dump trucks and trucks with pony trailers to transport gravel, soil, aggregates, and other construction materials.
• Operate heavy equipment, including excavators, loaders, dozers, and other machinery, as required based on experience and project needs.
• Assist with loading, unloading, moving, and placing materials on construction sites.
• Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections, routine equipment checks, and required safety documentation.
• Maintain equipment cleanliness and promptly report maintenance concerns, defects, or damage.
• Communicate effectively with dispatch, Site Supervisors, Superintendents, and other crew members to coordinate daily activities.
• Follow all safety procedures, traffic regulations, and company policies.
• Maintain accurate trucking slips, equipment records, and other required documentation.
• Support general construction activities and assist crew members when trucking or equipment operation is not required.
• Take initiative, adapt to changing priorities, and contribute to keeping projects safe, productive, and on schedule.

Qualifications & Skills

Required:

• Valid Class 1 driver's licence with a clean driving abstract.
• Experience operating tandem dump trucks and pony trailers in a construction environment.
• Previous experience operating heavy equipment in civil construction.
• Strong understanding of safe driving practices, equipment operation, and construction site safety.
• Ability to work independently, follow direction, and collaborate effectively with a team.
• Dependable, punctual, and comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• A positive, professional attitude and willingness to take on different tasks as needed.

Considered an Asset:

• Five or more years of experience in civil construction trucking and/or equipment operation.
• Experience operating multiple types of heavy equipment, particularly excavators, loaders, and dozers.
• Experience with equipment hauling and machine transport.
• Mechanical aptitude and basic equipment troubleshooting skills.
• Experience working on roadbuilding, underground utility, or other civil construction projects.
