Job summary

CBCL Limited is seeking a Civil/Structural Engineering Technologist to join our Ports & Marine team across Atlantic Canada. Ideal candidates will lead design work for wharf structures, dredging, and breakwaters, while coordinating drawing packages and project delivery from inception to construction.

Strong Civil 3D, AutoCAD, and cost-estimating skills are essential, with a willingness to travel to job sites.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • 5+ years of civil/structural/marine infrastructure experience.
  • Proficient with Civil 3D and AutoCAD; capable drawing production.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and contribute to designs for ports & marine projects (wharf, dredging, breakwaters).
  • Prepare and review high-quality drawing packages aligned with project requirements.
  • Support project delivery from conception through construction and contract admin.
  • Perform site inspections and field documentation with sound technical judgment.
  • Prepare reports, quantity take-offs, and cost estimates; mentor junior staff.

Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Civil / Structural Engineering Technologist to join our Ports & Marine team. The preferred location for this position is our Halifax, Sydney, or St. John’s office; however, we are open to considering other CBCL branch locations.

We are looking for a motivated, detail-oriented individual who takes pride in delivering high-quality work on new and rehabilitated Ports & Marine infrastructure projects. As the ideal candidate, you will collaborate with an established team of professional engineers and technologists to develop innovative, multidisciplinary design solutions with a strong focus on client satisfaction. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to a wide variety of high-profile and complex projects while gaining meaningful experience on infrastructure that has a lasting impact on our communities.

Your Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and contribute to conceptual, preliminary, and detailed designs for a range of Ports & Marine infrastructure projects, including wharf structures, dredging, breakwaters, and related works;
  • Prepare, coordinate, and review high-quality drawing packages, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and alignment with project requirements;
  • Support project delivery from inception through engineering, construction, and contract administration, including coordination with internal disciplines, clients, and contractors;
  • Complete site inspections, construction reviews, and field documentation while exercising sound technical judgment; and
  • Prepare and review technical reports, quantity take-offs, and cost estimates, while providing guidance and technical support to junior staff where appropriate.
Your Capabilities and Credentials:
  • A diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, or an equivalent certification, is preferred;
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in civil, structural, marine, or related infrastructure projects;
  • Strong working ability with Civil 3D and AutoCAD, including above-average drawing production capabilities;
  • Working knowledge of Revit, InfraWorks, or GIS would be considered an asset.
  • Ability to complete quantity take-offs and support cost estimating activities;
  • Ability to work diligently and manage time effectively to meet project deadlines;
  • Experience supporting data collection activities, including topographic surveys and infrastructure investigations, would be considered an asset;
  • Experience working in a consulting environment would be considered an asset; and
  • A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to job sites as required.
