Job summary

Stantec in Burnaby, BC is seeking a Civil/Structural EIT to join the transmission line engineering group. You will work on power line projects under the guidance of a Transmission Line Engineer or Designer, developing design deliverables and advancing toward an engineering role.

The role offers a collaborative environment with exposure to AutoCAD, MicroStation, PLS-CADD, LiDAR data, and opportunities to grow toward becoming a Transmission Line Engineer or Designer.

Qualifications

• Civil/Structural Engineering degree from a recognized university.
• Minimum one year of related utility design experience, preferably within the power utility space.

Responsibilities

• Assist transmission line team with engineering and design services for overhead power transmission line projects.
• Perform drafting in AutoCAD or MicroStation following industry codes and client standards.
• Prepare maps, layouts, and plans for power line routes and right‑of‑ways.
• Assist with modeling and analysis of transmission lines and structures in PLS-CADD using survey data (LiDAR).
• Assist in design of power line structures (wood, steel, concrete) and their foundations.
• Support development of design deliverables with sketches, digital models, diagrams, and visuals.
• Prepare bills of materials for power line projects.
• Support the Design Team with project tasks, including researching, compiling data, preparing reports, and performing calculations.
• Participate in site visits and project coordination meetings with internal and external stakeholders.

Your Opportunity

Our transmission line engineering group has an opportunity for a Civil/Structural EIT for our Burnaby, BC office. This opportunity is available to university graduates and EITs (Engineer in Training). You will work on several power line projects under the guidance of a Transmission Line Engineer or Designer in a dynamic, vibrant, and collaborative team environment. Your Key Responsibilities

Job requirements will include assisting the transmission line team with engineering and design services of overhead power transmission line projects and deliverables.

• Perform drafting tasks in AutoCAD or MicroStation for design following industry codes and client standards.
• Prepare maps, layouts, and plans for power line routes and right-of-ways.
• Assist with modeling and analysis of transmission lines and structures in PLS-CADD environment utilizing survey data (usually LiDAR).
• Assist in design of power line structures (wood, steel, and concrete) and their foundations.
• Assists in the development of design deliverables through preparation of sketches, digital models, diagrams, and other visuals.
• Preparing bill of materials for power line projects.
• Assisting the Design Team with various project tasks, including researching, compiling and evaluating project data, preparing reports, and performing calculations as instructed.
• Participate in site visits as required.
• Attends project coordination meetings and communicate with internal team members and/or external stakeholders.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

• Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, including spreadsheets.
• Good communication skills (oral and written) with the ability to effectively communicate project issues with the project team.
• Strong interest in developing new skills and career advancement.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD or MicroStation drafting software.
• Familiarity with overhead power line (either transmission or distribution) design and drafting will be an asset.
• Any work experience within utilities, EPC service providers, or consulting organizations will be an asset.
• Experience with GIS mapping is an asset.
• Self‑motivated with the ability to work both independently and in teams.
• Time management skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Education and Experience

• Civil/Structural Engineering degree from a recognized university.
• Minimum one year of related utility design experience, preferably within the power utility space, is required.

Pay Range

• Locations in Lower Mainland - BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario-$67,100.00 - $93,900.00 Annually

Pay Transparency

In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
