Job summary

Stantec Consulting International Ltd. is seeking a Civil Field Inspector to join our Community Development Team in London, Ontario. The role involves on-site quality assurance for land development projects, documentation, and coordination with the client and contractor.

The ideal candidate has 2–3 years of municipal infrastructure inspection experience, strong reading of construction drawings, and proficiency in AutoCAD/Civil 3D and Excel. Travel within the London area is required.

Qualifications

• Post‑secondary education in an accredited Engineering Technology or Civil Engineering program or equivalent.
• Minimum of 2 to 3 years of construction inspection experience related to municipal linear infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead on-site quality assurance inspection activities for land development projects.
• Prepare construction reports (erosion, sediment, site, testing).
• Maintain daily photographic records and archiving.
• Record underground services elevations for as-built info.
• Lead on-site meetings and change-order reviews.

• Prepare red-lined as-built drawings.
• Mentor less experienced staff on procedures and software.

Your Opportunity

Our London office has an opportunity for a Civil Field Inspector. Working in a multi-disciplined environment, you will have the opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects with our Community Development Team.

Your Key Responsibilities

Working in conjunction with the Senior Staff leading Stantec’s team, your responsibilities will include:

• Leading all on-site quality assurance inspection activities for land development (subdivision and site plan) projects to record as-constructed conditions and verify conformance with the contract document, in accordance with applicable Ontario Provincial Standard Specifications, Ontario Building Code, Regional Standards, Municipal Standards and Stantec specifications including coordinating with third parties for Geotechnical inspection and testing as required.

• Prepare construction reports, including but not limited to, erosion and sediment reports, inspections reports, site reports, testing reports and daily records for submission to Approval Authority

• Maintaining daily photographic records to document construction activities and regularly archiving for records.

• Quantity surveying including recording underground services elevation to document as-built information

• Leading on-site construction progress review meetings, including documenting the discussion and action items.

• Leading construction progress payment reviews, including tracking and reviewing contemplated change orders for out-of-scope work.

• Serving as a main point of contact on site for the Contractor and the Client.

• Reviewing requests for information, submittals, construction schedules, shop drawings and pay applications.

• Preparing red-lined as-built drawings.

• Training and/or mentoring less experienced staff in company procedures, standards and software.

• Travel within London and surrounding area will be required

Your Capabilities and Credentials

• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings with knowledge of standard engineering and construction principles, municipal design standards and design specifications such as Ontario Provincial Standard Specifications (OPSS) and Ontario Provincial Standards Drawings (OPSD).

• Basic topographical surveying skills.

• Effective oral and written communication skills.

• Excellent organization and documentation skills.

• The ability to work with limited supervision.

• Proficient in the use of MS Office software, particularly with Excel spread sheets. Ideal candidate will have experience with design software such as AutoCAD and Civil 3D.

• Have a valid Ontario Class ‘G’ Driver’s License and reliable vehicle for use on / off project sites. Mileage will be reimbursed for work related travel

• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with the Project Team, Clients, and Contractors in the resolution of construction issues.

• Successful completion of OGRA & MEA "Sewer and Watermain Construction Inspection (TM43)" course is considered an asset.

Education and Experience

• Post‑secondary education in an accredited Engineering Technology or Civil Engineering program or the equivalent in education and experience.

• Minimum of 2 to 3 years of construction inspection experience related with municipal linear infrastructure projects (underground servicing, site grading, road works, and erosion and sediment control protections).

Position will work in both a field and office setting. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Position has possibility of overtime to align with Contractor construction schedules. Must be available to travel for out-of-town projects when needed.

Pay Range:

Locations Outside of Lower Mainland - BC & Various locations in Ontario-$58,400.00 - $81,800.00 Annually

Pay Transparency:

In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro‑rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
