Job summary

Thurber Engineering Ltd. seeks an experienced Construction Materials Field Technician to join our Edmonton, Alberta team. You will perform field testing and inspection for infrastructure and transportation projects, with emphasis on quality control and CCIL/CSA standards.

A minimum of three years' field experience, a valid Class 5 license, and strong English communication are required. Diploma in Engineering Technology is a plus, and travel to out-of-town sites is common.

Qualifications

• Three (3)+ years of field-based work experience carrying out construction monitoring and field materials testing.
• Completion of a related post-secondary diploma level program in Engineering Technology is an asset, but not required.
• Strong organizational, interpersonal and English spoken and written communication skills.
• Concrete Testing Certificate from CCIL/CSA is required.
• Must be available to work variable shifts based on construction schedules including weekends and extended hours.
• Must possess a valid Class 5 driver license.
• Must be able to lift and carry 25 kg at chest height to handle samples and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Carry out construction inspection for various projects.
• Carry out field concrete testing as per CCIL/CSA requirements.

• Effectively communicate results and observations to clients, contractors and project engineers verbally and in written formats.
• Liaise with project engineers and client’s site representatives.

Civil Engineering - Construction Materials Field Technician (2026091885)

Thurber has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Construction Materials Field Technician, with three (3) or more years of direct experience, to join our team in Edmonton, Alberta.

Thurber provides geotechnical, environmental and construction materials engineering and testing services for a variety of industries across Canada. Our multidisciplinary expertise allows us to work on problems related to earth, the environment and construction materials. We solve problems in a wide variety of industries including transportation, building construction, municipal infrastructure, land development, dams and water resources, industrial development, mining, oil and gas, marine and environmental services.

This role supports larger complex industrial and infrastructure projects which are predominantly out of town in northern and central Alberta.

• Many sites require pre-access and post incident drug and alcohol testing;
• You will be required to provide a 3-year driver abstract and a 3-year insurance claims experience letter; and,
• We will be required to obtain a Criminal Names Record Check for you as a requirement to operate Nuclear Densometers for compaction testing.
