Position Overview

Reporting directly to the Courtenay Manager, the successful Engineer in Training or Junior P.Eng. will be involved in various civil projects. The position will include the provision of engineering services from proposal stage through to survey, assessment, design and construction of projects. Projects may vary from resource sector road and crossing survey and design to support resource development and construction as well as stormwater management. The successful applicant will have the opportunity for professional development working with a motivated and dynamic team of experienced professionals. Fieldwork is an integral part of this position. Applicants must be prepared for field work, including hiking into remote sites in all conditions and the potential for camp‑based work.

Major Job Functions
  • Assisting civil engineers in all aspects of their projects including:
    • Site investigations; including bridge and dock inspections, and stormwater management investigations
    • Site surveying (total station and RTK GPS)
    • Report preparation
    • Road and crossing design, stormwater design, urban development design.
    • Coordinating project drawings and reports
    • Assisting with field reviews during construction
    • Assisting with project management and/or contract administration
    • Potential for camp‑based work

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills and ability to build positive relationships across all levels of business.
  • Strong technical analysis and technical writing capabilities.
  • Physically fit and comfortable with outdoor work and occasional travel.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills with the ability to work on numerous projects.
  • Willingness to learn and work with limited supervision.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Geotechnical or Related Field of Engineering.
  • Eligible for registration with EGBC as an EIT.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience.
Salary Range
  • 1st Year EIT (E1-E2) 60-70k
  • 2nd Year EIT (E2) 65-75k
  • 3rd Year EIT (E2) 75-85k
  • 4th Year EIT (E2-E3) 80-90k
  • Junior P.Eng. (E3) 85–100k
