Job Description : What’s the role

Shell is seeking a Civil Engineer to join their team at Shell Sarnia – Refinery.

This role reports to the Reliability Manager and is responsible for maintaining the civil infrastructure and underground systems at the Sarnia Manufacturing Centre. The position provides engineering support to production teams in resolving short-, mid-, and long-term issues, and works collaboratively with other team members to address challenges. The Civil Engineer offers technical guidance, troubleshooting, assurance, and start-up support to the Maintenance, Projects, and Production teams.

Accountabilities
  • Oversee all civil infrastructure programs, including foundations, structures, fireproofing, underground systems, rail, dock, and pipe drainage
  • Resolution of civil related threats and opportunities
  • Provide detailed work scopes for civil inspections and repairs including routine maintenance and non-routine maintenance repairs, pitstops and turnarounds
  • Provide engineering for small and mid-sized initiatives to support site safety, reliability and growth
  • Integration and review of management of change (MOC) elements related to civil equipment
  • Review projects that are affecting civil structures for adherence to Shell Standards, SMC site specific standards, and jurisdictional requirements
  • Ensure technical recommendations reflect statutory, federal and provincial regulations, Shell standards and good engineering practices
  • Apply causal reasoning of low to medium risk civil failures and failure analysis of high to extreme risk civil failures
  • Provide technical assurance of preventive maintenance activities, pitstops, project and turnaround activities
What you bring
  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • Must have a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering
  • At least 5+ years of experience in a similar role
  • Must hold, or be able to obtain, a Professional Engineer license in the Province of Ontario
  • Knowledge and practical experience with civil structures and equipment and their application in the oil and gas processing industry
  • Knowledge of applicable industry codes and regulations
  • Knowledge and skill to integrate detailed civil scopes to troubleshoot and solve civil related issues at site
