The Opportunity:

We are looking for a Civil Engineer with a background in municipal Infrastructure (water, sewer, storm sewer, retention ponds, road design) to join the St John’s team. As the successful candidate, you will have the opportunity to lead a team and plan, coordinate, and execute a variety of civil projects.

Roles and Responsibilities:

As it relates to the provision of services to the NL Provincial Municipal Infrastructure and the Municipality Clients, your responsibilities will be to:

  • Follow the procedures laid out by the NL Municipal Infrastructure Dept to complete a project.
  • Manage a variety of projects such as infrastructure upgrades and subdivision developments, including design and construction of water, sewer, drainage, and transportation infrastructure
  • Provide technical guidance to a team of EITs and designers to deliver preliminary to detailed design drawings and specifications
  • Carry out estimates of project costs, analysis and calculations, design review, preparation of reports, proposals, and contract documentation
  • Build business relationships with current and potential clients
  • Interface directly with clients, team members, contractors, and others to clearly define project requirements and expectations
  • Ensure completion of work within allotted schedules and budgets to high quality standards
  • Create a work plan that includes a schedule, milestones, control, and risk factors
  • Proactively resolve performance, scope, and schedule issues as they arise
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (other disciplines encouraged to apply if practicing Civil Engineering)
  • Must be registered (or eligible to register) as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador
  • Have concrete experience in the design of horizontal infrastructure (Water, Sewer, Storm sewer)
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in municipal engineering and project management
  • Experience in materials testing (soils, concrete) and/or structural design and analysis is an asset
  • Experience in hydraulic analysis and design and/or process-mechanical design is also considered an asset
  • Strong project management, technical and analytical skills
  • Strong technical writing skills demonstrated through experience in the preparation of correspondence, reports and proposals
  • Effective verbal communicator, including presentation, facilitation and listening skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment; able to mentor and work with junior engineers and designers
  • Good organization skills and strong attention to detail
