Job summary

Aplin Martin Consultants Ltd. is seeking a Design Engineer to lead design drawings and documentation for land development and capital works. The role serves as Engineer-of-Record on projects, requiring strong technical skills and mentorship for junior staff.

With a minimum of 4 years’ experience and a P.Eng. eligibility, you will contribute from concept through detailed issuance for construction drawings, and participate in tendering and construction administration.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of design experience in land development or capital projects.
• P.Eng. certification or eligibility in the province of practice (BC).
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Experience with MMCD contracts.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D is required.
• Ability to manage multiple projects with limited supervision.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed AutoCAD Civil 3D drawings for land development and capital works projects.
• Support Project Managers with fee proposals.
• Prepare and review design calculations per current standards.
• Interpret topographic information for design.
• Oversee site grading and earthworks balancing.
• Prepare quantities, cost estimates, and contract documents.
• Mentor junior design team members and maintain design records.
• Assist in tendering and construction administration activities.

Position Overview:

A role primarily with responsibilities for a variety of design assignments. The position holder is the Engineer-of-Record on most projects.

Must have a minimum of 4 years’ related experience. The Design Engineer will have direct involvement with the detailed design process to ensure completion of the design objectives, approvals and all necessary documents ready to be issued for construction. The Design Engineer will assume responsibilities from the conceptual level through detailed issuance for construction drawings and be involved in the tendering and construction administration of the project. This position should be a reliable go-to person for technical engineering questions of all levels.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Preparation of detailed engineering drawings (primarily using AutoCAD Civil 3D and related applications) for a variety of land development and capital works projects.


• Provide input to Project Managers for the preparation of fee proposals.


• Prepare and review design calculations in accordance with current standards.


• Interpretation of topographic information required for design.


• Site and lot grading and earthworks balancing/optimization.


• Preparation of quantity take-offs and cost estimates.


• Preparation of reports, letters, memos and other project correspondence.


• Answer technical enquiries during the construction of the project.


• Provide some direction and mentoring to junior members of the design team.


• Compilation of as-built records for design and record drawings.


• Preparation of contract documents for project tendering and execution of the project design drawings, and;


• Contract administration during the construction phase.

Skills and Qualifications:

• 4+years of experience in design of land development or capital works projects.


• Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in the province of practice, or eligible and actively working toward registration.


• Valid Driver’s License.


• Experience working with MMCD contracts.


• High level of expertise in AutoCAD Civil 3D is required.


• Ability to work simultaneously on several different projects.


• Consistently able to produce accurate, high-quality work.


• Comfortable carrying out design work with limited supervision.


• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.


• Knowledgeable of technical design issues, constructability, cost, and design approvals.


• Knowledgeable of tender preparation with construction administration experience preferred.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $80,000 to $95,000 per year, commensurate with experience, skillsets, and qualifications.
