A provincial government agency in Coquitlam seeks a Child Care Counsellor to provide care planning and treatment services for youth with severe mental health needs. Applicants should have relevant qualifications in human services and experience working with young people. The role requires full-time, on-site availability, including weekends. This position offers the chance to work within a dedicated multidisciplinary team, making a positive impact on the lives of young people.
The Maples Adolescent Treatment Centre (Maples) provides specialized community programs as well as live-in treatment services (serving the entire province) and works with young people in British Columbia with severe and enduring mental health needs, ages 7 to 17, as well as youth found Not Criminally Responsible by Reason of a Mental Disorder (NCRMD) or unfit to stand trial. Through a multi-disciplinary approach, our objective is to collaboratively enhance the capacity of communities to plan and care for young people through a closer to home focus. On-site programs operate 24/7 providing a period of clinical evaluation, stabilization, intervention and follow-up in a structured setting as well as support for families/caregivers and the development of a treatment and intervention plan. Program areas operate with a multidisciplinary team of social workers, clinicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses and childcare counsellors.
The Child Care Counsellor, as part of the multi-disciplinary team, is responsible for providing assessment, care planning, treatment, discharge and community services for young people with severe and enduring mental health and behavioural challenges who are admitted or enrolled at the Maples Adolescent Treatment Centre (The Maples), in accordance with established principles and guidelines of practice; to perform various administrative duties which support program objectives; and to perform other related duties as required.

These positions have full time on-site requirements. There are currently 10 temporary opportunities available until November 1, 2026. These As and When Needed positions hours may be unpredictable. The Maples operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Successful applicants must be available for at least nine shifts per week, inclusive of weekends. A Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Criminal Record Review Act Check (CRRA) will be required. Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
