Job summary

Kunuwanimano Child and Family Services in Cochrane, ON is seeking a dedicated full-time Child Welfare Worker. You will build strong relationships with First Nations communities, provide counseling and crisis intervention, and coordinate care plans for children in home or agency settings.

You will report to the Program Supervisor, collaborate with Family Services Workers, and ensure holistic support across physical, emotional, social, spiritual, and educational needs for children in care.

Qualifications

• Requires a BSW or Social Service Worker credential and relevant coursework.
• Experience delivering services to First Nations children and families is preferred.
• Ability to work flexible hours and travel as needed.

Responsibilities

• Provide fair, equitable, respectful, and culturally relevant service in line with Kunuwanimano’s values.
• Maintain positive relationships with First Nations Councils, elders, committees, and agencies.
• Comply with By-Laws, Policies, and Procedures of Kunuwanimano.
• Establish relationships with a caseload of children in home or agency care.
• Provide counseling and crisis intervention to children.
• Report incidents of abuse to the Program Supervisor.
• Participate in investigations as directed.
• Collaborate with Family Services Workers on care plans.
• Meet the physical, emotional, social, spiritual, cultural, and educational needs of children.
• Coordinate family access visits for children in care.
• Develop and monitor treatment plans as identified.
• Support coordination of customary care and agency placements.

• Provides counseling and crises intervention services to children.
• Reports immediately to the Program Supervisor, all incidents, or suspicions of physical or sexual abuse of children.
• Participates in investigations as directed.
• Collaborates with Family Services Workers in the development of plans of care for children in the temporary care of the Agency.
• Ensures that the familial, physical, emotional, social, spiritual, cultural, and educational needs of children are met.
• Coordinates family access visits for children in the care of the Agency.
• Develops, implements, and monitors treatment plans for children in accordance with identified needs.
• Supports the Family Services Worker in coordinating customary care and Agency placements.

What you bring to the table

• BSW degree or Social Service Worker program.
• A minimum of two (2) years of previous experience working with children within a human service environment.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Previous child welfare experience within First Nations communities an asset.
• Must possess a valid “G” Ontario Driver’s licence, be willing to travel, able to work flexible hours and provide on-call services when required.
• Must have a $2M auto liability insurance coverage.
• Must produce clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.
• Ability to speak an indigenous language considered a major asset.
• Demonstrate excellent analytical, problem solving, negotiating, decision making, planning, organizational, administrative, and oral and written communication skills.
