Overview

Position Description: The primary purpose of this role is to serve God through ministering at Cheyne Presbyterian Church by directing Sunday morning and weeknight programming for children (Nursery-Grade 5). The role includes leadership to cast vision for Sunday AM and Fusion (mid-week) programming, curriculum curation, and supporting volunteers and families.

Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership to cast vision for Sunday AM program and the mid-week Fusion program, including curating and choosing curriculum.
  • Review curriculum annually to ensure it meets desired outcomes.
  • Create worship, prayer, learning and activity experiences for preschool and elementary spaces aligned to age and developmental stage.
  • Recruit, connect with, and disciple volunteers; develop leaders for nursery, preschool, and elementary ministries.
  • Empower volunteers to take ownership of their ministry spaces; hold regular meetings to inspire, evaluate and plan together.
  • Provide 1-2 training opportunities for volunteers each year.
  • Express appreciation for volunteers at Christmas and in June.
  • Administration: format and adapt curriculum for preschool and elementary for each month; plan ahead several months.
  • Support volunteer teams by printing and readying classroom supplies weekly; schedule volunteers for ongoing ministries and events, filling gaps as needed.
  • Distribute weekly reminders with attached lessons to scheduled volunteers; coordinate with office admin on current Vulnerable Sector checks and onboarding (Leading with Care policy, emergency plans, etc.).
  • Ensure volunteers have resources to run classrooms; restock supplies weekly and manage shopping/order needs; maintain and refresh resource and storage rooms annually.
  • Environment: arrive early on Sundays and Wednesdays to set up classrooms or recruit a setup team; check that all material needs are met; annually evaluate spaces for refresh or upgrades.
  • Planning Kids and Family Events: create an annual calendar of events (e.g., summer camp, seasonal events, Christmas, Easter) and plan enriching programs for high-season celebrations; lead programming for special events (retreats, seminars, conferences).
  • Resourcing for Families: develop new ways to engage parents and provide at-home resources; plan and initiate events to equip and engage parents.
  • Collaborate with church librarian to recommend resources for children and caregivers; manage Kids Check-in Station (setup/teardown, stocked with supplies).
  • Utilize Planning Centre to keep up-to-date information on families, programs and demographics.
  • Additional: Create an annual budget for Children’s Ministry; check in with the Senior Pastor for support and guidance.
  • First Aid/CPR C/AED certification is an asset and highly recommended.
Qualifications
  • Demonstrates a growing, vibrant relationship with Christ; daily habits, church attendance, service, and active involvement in Cheyne Church community.
  • Aligned theologically with Cheyne Presbyterian Church’s statement of faith.
  • Theological education preferred.
  • Experience working with children and families; strong administrative and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Leadership experience (work, volunteer, or church).
  • Proficiency with digital tools for administration and communication (Planning Centre, Proclaim, Google Drive, Dropbox, Canva, Facebook, Instagram).
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing work environments and times based on ministry needs.
Job Details
  • Hours of Work: 40 hours per week
  • Annual Wage: To be determined based on experience and qualifications
  • Reports to: Senior Pastor and Elder’s Session
  • Work Environment: Attend weekly staff meetings; attend Elders’ Sessions bi-monthly; be present on Sunday mornings and mid-week programs; work from church office three days a week (with potential remote work as needed; hours may vary)
