An Indigenous-focused organization in Winnipeg is seeking a CCA/Cook to support child health and wellness by preparing nutritious meals. The ideal candidate will have experience in food preparation in a childcare setting and a strong passion for child nutrition. This full-time, permanent role offers a unique opportunity to engage with Indigenous foods and culture. Preference is given to Indigenous candidates.

Qualifications

JOB SUMMARY

The CCA/Cook supports the health and wellness of children by preparing nutritious, balanced meals and snacks each day. Working within the Canada Food Guide and Centre policies, this role ensures all children enjoy wholesome, safe, and culturally mindful food options that promote lifelong healthy eating habits.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare breakfast, lunch and afternoon snack.
  • Plan and follow a 3–4-week rotating menu based on the Canada Food Guide, the MELCC regulations and public health standards.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment.
  • Keep accurate records of menus, substitutions, allergies, and special dietary needs.
  • Order and store food and cleaning supplies responsibly, following WHMIS standards.
  • Support a positive, team‑based environment with educators and staff.
  • Provides light housekeeping duties daily including laundry and cleaning of equipment.
  • Participate in staff meetings and contribute to a culture of health, wellness, and care.
  • Step into childcare support roles when needed.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Willing to acquire a Food Handler’s Certificate.
  • CPR and First Aid certification.
  • At least one year of experience preparing meals in a childcare or similar setting.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous foods and cultural traditions is an asset.
  • Clear Criminal Record and Child Abuse Registry checks are required.
