Job summary

Vanier is seeking a crisis counsellor to provide intake assessment, crisis intervention, and brief solution-focused counselling for children and families with significant behavioural, emotional, and social challenges. You will work across a collaborative network of agencies and must be bilingual in French.

Responsibilities include home and agency assessments, safety planning, written reports, risk assessments, and ongoing family support to connect clients with formal and informal resources.

Responsibilities

• provide crisis services – which may include TAPP-C assessment in the home or in the agency.
• provide a crisis response which may include in home services.
• provide waitlist counselling supports to Vanier clients.
• engage and develop safety/action plans for children, youth and their families who are in crisis.
• provide written reports, summaries, and case notes as required by the program / agency.
• complete intake assessment interviews including standardized assessment tools.
• respond to intake and crisis phone calls and provide risk assessment and action plans from the information gathered.
• provide on–going support to children, youth, and families who are referred and awaiting services of the program/agency.
• assist families in accessing and building support through formal and informal networks.

Position Summary: Responsible for providing intake assessment, crisis intervention and brief solution focused counselling and support services for children and families with significant behavioural, emotional and social problems. This is a collaborative project of several agencies: Vanier Children’s Mental Wellness; Merrymount Family Support & Crisis Centre; Humana; LHSC; CPRI. Bilingual in French is required.

Education/Training/Experience:

• College diploma or university degree in child and youth work; social service work
• Bilingual in French is required.
• Preference given to applicants with 5 or more years’ experience delivering crisis supports / work in a crisis setting.
• Must have Red Cross First Aid, CPR ‘C,’ and Safe Management certification at the time of applying for this position.
• Valid driver’s license, with adequate liability and own vehicle.
