Job summary

Dilico Anishinabek Family Care in Thunder Bay, ON is hiring a Children’s Wellness Worker to protect children in care under the Child and Family Services Act and agency policies. Under the District Child Welfare Service Manager’s guidance, you will perform duties to ensure children’s service needs are met.

Requirements include a two-year Human Services Diploma (BSW preferred), experience with Anishinabek families, and a valid G driver’s license with a reliable vehicle.

Qualifications

  • Minimum two years' experience with Anishinabek children, youth and families; preferably Child Welfare.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Records Search; Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Must work flexible hours, travel regularly and be on-call as required.
  • Valid Class G Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle with $1 million liability.

Responsibilities

  • Protect the safety of children in care under the applicable act and policies.
  • Ensure service needs of children in care are met in accordance with procedures.

Position Overview:

Under the direction of the Children’s Wellness or District Child Welfare Service Manager, the Children’s Wellness Worker is responsible for providing the protection of children in care by performing duties as may be required, in accordance with provisions of the Child and Family Services Act, Ministry Regulations and Standards, Abuse Protocols, and Dilico Anishinabek Family Care policies and procedures. The Children’s Services Worker is responsible for ensuring that all the service needs of children in care of the agency are met.

Qualifications and Requirements:
  • A minimum two-year Human Services Diploma is required. A three-year BSW is preferred
  • A minimum two years experience with Anishinabek children, youth, individuals and families; preferably Child Welfare experience
  • Candidates without the specific education qualifications and where the position does not require certified qualification to practice, but who possess an appropriate combination of experience and other academic qualifications will also be considered.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Records Search; including Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Required to work flexible hours, travel regularly and to act on an "on-call" basis as determined by the respective Manager in relation to service requirements.
  • Must possess a valid Class G Driver’s License and access to a reliable personal vehicle with $1 million dollar liability.
