Job summary

The YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka is seeking a casual, as needed Child Care Supply role across Midland and surrounding communities. You will provide personal care, supervise groups of up to 15 children, and implement play-based learning in line with the YMCA Curriculum.

We value strong communication with families and staff, inclusivity, and flexibility in scheduling. The role supports healthy, connected communities and requires First Aid/CPR, a Vulnerable Sector Check, and reliable availability.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 18 years of age.
  • Current Standard/Intermediate First Aid and CPR (Level C) or certification within 90 days.
  • Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Up-to-date immunizations or equivalents per local public health and Child Care Early Years Act.
  • Required availability as described (various shifts).
  • Passion for working with children and providing quality play-based learning.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills with families, staff and volunteers.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 20 kg, and participate in physical activities.
  • Ability to work outdoors for at least 2 hours daily year-round.

Responsibilities

  • Provide personal care to children, including toileting/diaper changes and first aid.
  • Supervise and ensure safety of up to 15 children in a group setting.
  • Plan and implement play-based learning according to YMCA Curriculum.
  • Communicate professionally with families, staff and volunteers.
  • Create an inclusive environment supporting children with exceptional behaviours and needs.
  • Demonstrate alignment with the YMCA Mission, Vision and Values.
  • Adhere to schedule to maintain ratios and notify supervisor of changes.
  • Demonstrate flexibility with routines and schedules.
  • Undertake other duties as assigned.

In this role, you will
  • Provide personal care to children, including but not limited to toileting/diaper changing, providing first aid, administering medication, monitoring dietary, allergies & medical conditions
  • Actively engage with children and always ensure supervision and safety of children in a group setting of up to 15 children independently
  • Plan and implement play-based learning in accordance with YMCA Curriculum
  • Ensure positive, professional communication with families, staff and volunteers on an ongoing basis
  • Provide an inclusive environment, supporting the needs of all children, including those with exceptional behaviours and additional needs
  • Demonstrate appropriate behaviours in line with our Mission, Vision and Values
  • Adhere to work schedule to ensure program stays within ratio and provide adequate notice to supervisor regarding unexpected scheduling changes
  • Demonstrate flexibility with routines and schedules
  • Other duties as assigned
For this role, you bring
  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • Current Standard/Intermediate First Aid and CPR (Level C) certification OR completion of certification within first 90 days of employment
  • Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Up-to-date immunizations or equivalent in accordance with local public health and Child Care Early Years Act
  • Required availability: ongoing for a minimum of one of the following:
    • (a) Two (2) shifts per week, consisting of opening shifts (minimum availability 6:30–9:30 a.m.) and/or closing shifts (minimum availability 2:30–6:00 p.m.); or
    • (b) Two (2) full days per week with continuous, uninterrupted availability for all shifts scheduled between 6:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.; or
    • (c) One (1) full day per week with continuous, uninterrupted availability for all shifts scheduled between 6:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., plus one (1) additional opening or closing shift per week, with availability from 6:30–9:30 a.m. (opening) or 2:30–6:00 p.m. (closing)
  • Passion for working with children and providing quality play-based learning
  • Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills with families, staff and volunteers
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time, lift up to 20 kg (44 lbs.), and participate in physical activities
  • Ability to work outdoors for at least 2 hours daily year-round, in all weather conditions
