Job summary

The YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka is hiring for a casual Child Care Supply role across Coldwater, Orillia, Severn and other communities. Join a professional team delivering safety, learning and enrichment for children in group settings.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older.
• Current Standard/Intermediate First Aid and CPR (Level C) or complete within 90 days.
• Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check.
• Up-to-date immunizations as required by local public health and Child Care Act.
• Flexible availability: two shifts per week or equivalent across early-morning to evening hours.
• Passion for working with children and providing quality play-based learning.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 20 kg, and participate in outdoor activities.

Responsibilities

• Provide personal care to children (toileting/diaper changes, first aid, medication) in a group setting up to 15 children.
• Engage with children and maintain supervision and safety.
• Plan and implement play-based learning per YMCA Curriculum.
• Communicate professionally with families, staff, and volunteers.
• Create an inclusive environment addressing diverse needs.
• Follow Mission, Vision and Values in daily activities.
• Maintain ratios and notify supervisor of scheduling changes.
• Be flexible with routines and schedules.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Locations: Coldwater (Coldwater P.S.), Cumberland Beach (Severn Shores P.S.), Orillia (Couchiching Heights P.S., Harriett Todd P.S., Lions Oval P.S., Monsignor Lee C.S., Notre Dame C.S., Regent Park P.S.), Severn (Marchmont P.S.), Warminster (Warminster E.S.)

In this role, you will:

• Provide personal care to children, including but not limited to toileting/diaper changing, providing first aid, administering medication, monitoring dietary, allergies & medical conditions
• Actively engage with children and always ensure supervision and safety of children in a group setting of up to 15 children independently
• Plan and implement play-based learning in accordance with YMCA Curriculum
• Ensure positive, professional communication with families, staff and volunteers on an ongoing basis
• Provide an inclusive environment, supporting the needs of all children, including those with exceptional behaviours and additional needs
• Demonstrate appropriate behaviours in line with our Mission, Vision and Values
• Adhere to work schedule to ensure program stays within ratio and provide adequate notice to supervisor regarding unexpected scheduling changes
• Demonstrate flexibility with routines and schedules
• Other duties as assigned

For this role, you bring:

• Minimum 18 years of age
• Current Standard/Intermediate First Aid and CPR (Level C) certification OR completion of certification within first 90 days of employment
• Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check
• Up-to-date immunizations or equivalent in accordance with local public health and Child Care Early Years Act
• Required availability: ongoing for a minimum of one of the following:
  • (a) Two (2) shifts per week, consisting of opening shifts (minimum availability 6:30–9:30 a.m.) and/or closing shifts (minimum availability 2:30–6:00 p.m.); or
  • (b) Two (2) full days per week with continuous, uninterrupted availability for all shifts scheduled between 6:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.; or
  • (c) One (1) full day per week with continuous, uninterrupted availability for all shifts scheduled between 6:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., plus one (1) additional opening or closing shift per week, with availability from 6:30–9:30 a.m. (opening) or 2:30–6:00 p.m. (closing)
• Passion for working with children and providing quality play-based learning
• Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills with families, staff and volunteers
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to stand for extended periods of time, lift up to 20 kg (44 lbs.), and participate in physical activities
• Ability to work outdoors for at least 2 hours daily year-round, in all weather conditions
