Job summary

Give Me A Break Childcare is opening a licensed centre on Hamilton Mountain, offering full-time, part-time and on-demand care for children 18 months to 6 years. You will help open the centre alongside GMAB's leadership and shape the rooms, routines and culture from day one.

You’ll join the founding team, interview and onboard staff, then run the building day to day: the program, the people, the paperwork and the relationships with families.

Qualifications

• RECE in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators or equivalent per O. Reg. 137/15.
• Minimum two years leading a room, program, or team in licensed child care.
• Eligible for Ministry director approval to supervise a licensed centre.
• Strong knowledge of CCEYA, O. Reg. 137/15 and licensing requirements.
• Current Standard First Aid with infant and child CPR.

Responsibilities

• Direct the daily operation of the centre under applicable acts and keep it inspection-ready at all times.
• Build and maintain staff schedules that meet ratios and staffing requirements.
• Lead and coach a team of RECEs and staff from hiring to performance reviews.
• Champion the program statement grounded in How Does Learning Happen? and Reggio Emilia.
• Own child health and safety plans, reporting, and emergency drills.
• Be the first contact for families and handle questions with care and follow-through.
• Manage the centre budget, petty cash, food-service budget, and payroll support.
• Set up Supervisor Designate coverage when you are not on site.

Job description

Give Me A Break Childcare is a new licensed centre opening late fall 2026 at 976 Stone Church Rd E on Hamilton Mountain. We offer full-time, part-time and on-demand care for children 18 months to 6 years, with hours that run into the evening and across the weekend, so families with real-life schedules have somewhere to turn.

Our program is grounded in Ontario's How Does Learning Happen? and inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach. You would be joining the founding team, helping shape the rooms, the routines and the culture from day one.

This is the first hire we make. You will open the centre alongside GMAB's leadership, help interview and onboard the rest of the team, and then run the building day to day: the program, the people, the paperwork and the relationships with families. It suits an RECE who has led a room or a centre before and wants to build one from the ground up, with the licensee beside you rather than above you.

Hours

• Full-time, 35 to 40 hours a week, Monday to Friday.
• Those are paid hours. The daily meal break is unpaid, and you are free to leave the site.
• Mainly daytime, with the flexibility to cover opening and closing across our extended hours.
• The centre itself is open Monday to Friday 7:30 am to 9:30 pm, Saturday 9:00 am to 9:00 pm, Sunday 10:00 am to 8:00 pm.

What you will do

• Direct the daily operation of the centre under the Child Care and Early Years Act and O. Reg. 137/15, and keep it inspection-ready at all times
• Build and maintain staff schedules that protect ratios, group sizes and qualified-staff requirements across full-time, part-time and on-demand care
• Lead and coach a team of RECEs, educational assistants and a cook, from hiring and onboarding through to performance reviews
• Champion our program statement, grounded in How Does Learning Happen? and inspired by Reggio Emilia, in every room
• Own child health and safety: allergy and anaphylaxis plans, medication, accident and serious occurrence reporting, emergency drills
• Be the first point of contact for families, and handle questions and concerns with care and follow-through
• Manage the centre operating budget, room petty cash and the food-service budget, and support payroll administration
• Set up Supervisor Designate coverage so someone with clear authority is on site whenever you are not

What you bring

• Registered Early Childhood Educator in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators, or otherwise qualified as permitted under O. Reg. 137/15
• At least two years of experience in licensed child care, including time leading a room, a program or a team
• Eligible for Ministry of Education director approval to serve as Supervisor of a licensed centre
• Strong working knowledge of the CCEYA, O. Reg. 137/15, Ministry licensing requirements and How Does Learning Happen?
• Current Standard First Aid with infant and child CPR from a WSIB-approved provider

Nice to have

• Experience opening a new centre or program
• Experience with staff scheduling, budgets and payroll administration
• Experience with flexible, extended-hours or drop-in care models

Conditions of employment

• A Vulnerable Sector Check completed before your start date, with ongoing offence declarations as required under the Child Care and Early Years Act
• Health and immunization documentation as required by Hamilton Public Health
• Completion of GMAB's orientation, including our policies, program statement, allergy and anaphylaxis procedures and emergency plans
