Job summary

360°kids in York Region is seeking a Youth Worker to provide client-centered, hands-on support for SHINE Programs for youth aged 15–19 facing housing crises. You will help with life skills, housing access, meals, and safety.

Responsibilities include intake/discharge planning, crisis response, documentation, liaising with partners, and ensuring program accessibility. Requires a post-secondary credential in a youth field and 3+ years of relevant experience.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of three years’ experience working with at-risk or street-involved youth.
  • Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) and Suicide Prevention training are assets.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Current Broad Record Check (criminal background check).
  • Car and valid driver's license with a clean abstract and $2M liability insurance.
  • Demonstrated client-focused counselling skills and role modelling.
  • Fluency in French is an asset.
  • Ability to access program 24/7 and climb stairs; mobility access is limited.

  • Assist youth to access community programs for school, health, housing, employment.
  • Maintain relationships with school boards, police, child welfare, and community partners.

360°kids is a vitally important community agency serving all of York Region. We have been a leader in the delivery of innovative support services for more than 35 years as we work to improve the lives of unhoused and marginalized youth and families in York Region. At 360°kids, we provide a unique continuum of care approach with programs and services that are essential to the health and well-being of youth. These proven strategies help to keep youth safe by providing stable housing options with 360° wraparound supports.

The 360°kids' youth residence is a voluntary program that offers a combination of housing and support for youth, primarily 15-19 years of age, who are facing a housing crisis. Family reintegration is our primary focus; however, where that is not possible, youth are taught the valuablelife skills necessary to move on to independent living.

The Youth Worker will provide client centered, hands on support for all youth participating in the 360°kids SHINE Programs.

Schedule: Monday to Friday 7am to 3pm and 3pm to 11pm (Rotational)
Key Responsibilities
  • Create and maintain a clean and welcoming environment for youth in care.
  • Ensures program is always accessible to youth
  • Provides ongoing life skills support, mentoring and provides access to direct services to address issues youth presently face (E.g. employment, family issues, life skills, shelter, hot meals, counselling, recreational activities, and clothing).
  • Facilitate regular life skill programming that will build on the youth’s skills and prepare them for independence.
  • Medication administration, monitoring, storage, and disposal (as required).
  • Provides informal one on one counselling to the youth in program.
  • Advocates on youth’s behalf and acts as a positive role model for youth.
  • Intake and discharge planning.
  • In the event of a crisis or critical incident, manages the situation to ensure the safety of all and immediately reports to appropriate level.
  • Oversees meal preparation and cleaning, performs some housework, light maintenance, and repair work, or arranges for additional service.
  • Enforces house rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Daily documentation such as case note documentation, report writing andvarious other administrative duties as needed.
  • Case Management- responsible for primary youths, ensuring plan of cares, medical, dental etc. are all in compliance with QSF
  • Assist youth to access various community programs regarding school, health, housing, employment, etc.
  • The Youth Worker will provide client centered, hands on support for all youth participating in the 360°kids SHINE Programs.
  • Maintain positive relationships and interact with various community partners including school boards, police services, child welfare agencies, neighbors, etc. in a professional and respectful manner
  • Positively contribute to 360°kids as an organization .
  • Other duties required (general home maintenance)
Skills and Education Required
  • Post-Secondary degree/diploma in a Child/youth related field (e.g. Child and Youth, Social Service Worker, Social Worker, Psychology, Sociology) orthe equivalent combination of education and experience working with youth.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience working with “at-risk” or street involved youth.

  • Demonstrated extensive knowledge of working with youth, including understanding of the regulatory environment (e.g. CFSA and QSF).
  • Demonstrated client focused counselling skills and role modelling.
  • Will possess a broad knowledge of community resources and the ability to strongly advocate for clients and professional referrals.
  • Relationship building and management skills, to support relationships with peers, staff, partners and ministry officials and other stakeholder.
  • Speaking and writing French is an asset.
  • Program is accessible 24 hours a day with staff on site. Please be aware candidate must have the ability to climb stairs. Program is not currently accessible for mobility devices.
