Job summary

A healthcare institution in Toronto is seeking a Child and Youth Worker to provide behavioral counseling and support to children and youth with complex mental health issues, particularly in relation to eating disorders. The ideal candidate will have experience in therapeutic support and work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team. A Child Youth Worker diploma is required, with a preference for a Baccalaureate Degree in Child and Youth Work.

Qualifications

Job description
OVERVIEW

The Child and Youth Worker (CYW) in the Maternal Newborn & Child Health Services works with the multidisciplinary team to provide behavioural counselling, support, assessment and safety plans for patients in the Eating Disorders Day Treatment “At Home” Program, their families and/or support networks. The CYW and teacher will work in tandem to provide educational instruction and therapeutic support to day treatment clients in their homes. They will also provide support for on site weekly visits to a classroom setting at the hospital. They work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team in, implementation and evaluation of treatment care and transition plans. The CYW also provides direct support in the outpatient / inpatient eating disorders programs.

This program will involve travel in MGH catchment area.

EDUCATION
  • Child Youth Worker diploma required;
  • Baccalaureate Degree in Child and Youth Work (preferred).
QUALIFICATIONS
  • 2-3 years post graduate experience with children and youth who have complex mental health issues.
  • Experience with Eating Disorder patients and their families/caregivers an asset.
  • Experience working in a day treatment classroom or inpatient unit an asset.
  • Ability to participate in the provision of individual and group therapies.
  • Experience with serious mental illness and high-risk children and adolescents.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess children and youth in crisis.
  • Demonstrated excellence in problem solving techniques, conflict resolution, and flexibility.
  • Co-operative relations within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to a diverse group.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of community resources.
  • Experience in developing community linkages and liaisons.
  • Demonstrated interest in continuing education.
  • Good attendance record required.
  • Excellent written skill required.
