Child and Family Services (CFS) Curriculum and Training Specialist

The Department of Health and Social Services works under the direction of the Minister and Deputy Minister, in partnership with the Health and Social Services Authorities, to support the health and wellbeing of people across the NWT through planning, development, evaluation and reporting on program and service delivery.

Job Information

Do you have a strong interest for facilitation and applying strategic creative and innovative learning approaches? The CFS Curriculum and Training Specialist is responsible for providing support on system standards, procedures, policies, and performance requirements related to Child and Family Services. This position will monitor and evaluate training on an ongoing basis, provide feedback to staff delivering training, and adjust the training to ensure that it continues to be relevant and appropriate for CFS staff working in the North. You will have the opportunity to advise the Statutory Director on curriculum needs and assist with quality improvement initiatives to enhance the training as required.

The CFS Specialist is an expert on CFS practice and policy, and is responsible for the development, implementation, maintenance, and continuous quality improvement of a comprehensive CFS Training Framework in the NWT that is culturally safe and promotes antiracism.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, development, implementation, and sustainability of the CFS curriculum and training.
  • Monitor and evaluates the quality of training provided by the CFS system and lead to support strategic approaches in training improvements and training assurance.
  • Project manage the multi-factored and comprehensive CFS system wide training.
  • Lead DHSS curriculum development and training initiatives to effectively maintain a high level of skill and ability for all CFS staff in accordance with the Child and Family Services Act and accompanying policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Develop, maintain, and support the implementation of training to the CFS system.

The ideal candidate will possess expert knowledge of the CFS program and Adoptions Services program and policies. Some of the key qualifications include:

  • A Bachelor of Social Work Degree and three (3) years of direct experience in Child and Family Services
  • Understanding of adult learning, transfer of knowledge, curriculum development
  • Understanding and sensitivity to cultural and geographical considerations
  • Knowledge and application of clinical approaches
  • Skills in negotiations, conflict management/resolution
  • Strong and effective communication and facilitation
  • A Master of Social Work Degree and one (1) year of direct experience in Child and Family Services and/or Adoptions Services.
  • A Diploma of Social Work Degree and five (5) years of direct experience in Child and Family Services and/or Adoptions Services.
