Atlantic Towing is seeking a Chief Mate for our Ports and Coastal Division.

Qualifications

  • Marine First Aid

Responsibilities
  • Maintain a safe and efficient navigational watch in accordance with international regulations, Master’s Standing Orders and company procedures and policies and maintain the Deck and Radio Logbooks;
  • Distribute work assignments, train and supervise junior officers and deck ratings and conduct performance appraisals;
  • Ensure that all deck operations are adequately planned and relevant policies, standards and administrative controls strictly followed (i.e. Permit to Work, Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Confined Space Entry, Lockout/Tag Out, including the Ballast Water Management Plan if applicable, etc.);
  • As the designated cargo officer, overall responsible for the proper planning and safe execution of cargo loading/discharging/lashing and tank cleaning operations and maintenance of relevant records and documentation (i.e. Cargo Manifests, Cargo Record Book, Cargo Securing Manual, etc.), ensuring that all applicable statutory, regulatory, charterer and company requirements are abided by;
  • Ensure that adequate stores and supplies are available for the safe, environmentally sound and efficient conduct of all deck operations and maintain relevant inventories;
  • Responsible for ensuring that the following equipment is properly inspected, tested and certified, maintained in accordance with the vessel’s planned maintenance program and applicable regulations, and records are kept:
  • Ensure proper record keeping for all potable and ballast water on board;
  • Ensure that the vessel’s garbage management plan is implemented and maintained and Garbage Record Book kept up–to–date;
  • Where applicable, responsible for the implementation of the Vessel Security Plan, including crew training and familiarization, maintenance of relevant records, inspection and testing of security equipment and observance of security procedures and arrangements;
  • Contribute to ATL’s Safety culture
