Job description

Chief Growth Officer
Reporting to: CEO
Years of experience: 15+

Work location: Toronto or New York, with regular travel to RTV's program countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. Remote candidates located within the Eastern Standard Time (EST) zone will also be considered. International travel up to 30% is required depending on the candidate's location.

About Raising The Village

Raising The Village (RTV) is one of the fastest-growing organizations in international development, combining evidence, operating discipline, and ambitious scale. Over the past three years, RTV has grown from a $15M annual budget to one nearing $70M. This year, RTV will enroll one million people; its next stage aims to reach six million people annually across Sub-Saharan Africa and build toward a $200M+ organization.

Position overview

RTV is looking for a Chief Growth Officer to convert proof, momentum, enormous addressable need into the capital, influence required for the next stage of scale. Reporting to the CEO, serving on the Executive Leadership Team, the CGO owns RTV's global growth agenda across fundraising, strategic partnerships, communications, market positioning, developing a sharp point of view on RTV's go-to-market: where the best opportunities are, how RTV should position itself, which capabilities to build, what mix of funders, partners, narratives, financing approaches can unlock disproportionate growth.

This role suits a competitive builder energized by a steep growth curve, a large target, the chance to create an engine rather than inherit one. A strategist as well as a fundraiser, able to segment a market, connect partnerships with programs, future operations, build a differentiated proposition, translate strategy into a disciplined pipeline. An exceptional closer who personally wins consequential commitments, builds the systems, team, institutional muscle that make success repeatable beyond personal relationships. Intellectually serious about evidence, impact, able to engage sophisticated funders on cost-effectiveness, measurement, implementation, scale, then turn technical substance into a compelling case for action.

This is a pivotal role for a high-standards, low-ego leader who moves between a boardroom conversation, a team operating review, a visit with frontline staff, comfortable building while the organization scales.

Key responsibilities
Growth Strategy & Revenue Leadership
  • Develop and own a multi-year growth strategy capable of taking RTV toward $200M+, grounded in market opportunity, RTV's comparative advantage, and disciplined choices about where to invest.
  • Define where RTV will play and how it will win across funders, partners, channels, geographies, and financing structures; test new approaches rather than defaulting to sector convention.
  • Own revenue performance end-to-end, including targets, investment, pipeline, forecasting, conversion, cost to raise, risk, and reporting to the CEO and Board.
  • Personally origin, shape, negotiate, and close consequential funding and partnership commitments.
Investment Case & Strategic Partnerships
  • Translate RTV's model, evidence, cost-effectiveness, government partnerships, and Venn-powered delivery system into a clear and differentiated investment case.
  • Partner closely with Programs, Evidence, Finance, and Venn to ensure external commitments are supported by implementation capacity, credible data, and a clear articulation of what additional funding will unlock.
  • Build senior relationships with sophisticated funders, government leaders, technical experts, and strategic partners that can materially expand RTV's reach and impact.
Growth Operations & Team Leadership
  • Build a rigorous, inspectable revenue operation with clear portfolio ownership, qualification standards, forecasting, decision rights, learning loops, and accountability.
  • Develop institutional capabilities across prospect intelligence, proposition development, due diligence, stewardship, communications, and executive engagement.
  • Build and lead a high-performing, globally distributed and cross-cultural team; hire outstanding leaders, coach actively, and establish clear standards and accountability.
Market Positioning & Communications
  • Strengthen RTV's position among the people and institutions shaping global development capital while preserving its evidence of orientation, humility, and proximity to communities.
  • Serve as a senior external champion for RTV in high-impact forums, relationships, and conversations.
  • Integrate communications and brand with growth strategy so visibility builds trust, opens doors, strengthens propositions, and converts attention into durable support.
Must Have
  • Demonstrated record of driving step-change revenue growth in a complex, mission-driven organization, including experience scaling strategy, teams, and institutional capabilities.
  • Direct, personal experience originating, shaping, and closing large or strategically important funding or partnership commitments.
  • Strong strategic and commercial judgment, with the ability to identify non-obvious growth opportunities, evaluate them rigorously, and concentrate resources behind the highest-potential paths.
  • Proven ability to build and manage a disciplined revenue pipeline, including forecasting, qualification, conversion, resource allocation, risk management, and accountability for results.
  • Executive-level ability to connect fundraising, partnerships, communications, and market positioning into a coherent go-to-market strategy.
  • Experience building and leading high-performing, distributed, cross-cultural teams through significant growth and change.
  • Credibility and executive presence with boards, senior funders, government leaders, strategic partners, and technical experts.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, listening, and public-speaking skills, including the ability to translate complex evidence and technical information into a compelling case for action.
  • Demonstrated humility, resilience, curiosity, sound judgment, and high standards in fast-changing environments.
  • Ability and willingness to travel approximately 30%, including regular travel to RTV program countries in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Nice to Have
  • 15+ years of progressive leadership experiencein fundraising, business development, strategic partnerships, growth, or a related field, includingat least 7-10 years in executive leadership roles.
  • Master's degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
  • Demonstrated experience personally originating, cultivating, and closing large, complex, or strategically significant funding/revenue commitments in a fast-paced and dynamic organization.
  • Senior growth, development, fundraising, or partnerships leadership experience in international development, global poverty alleviation, or a closely related mission-driven sector.
  • Experience helping an organization scale through a period of rapid budget or revenue growth toward $100M+ in annual funding.
  • Experience working with a diverse mix of institutional philanthropy, foundations, governments, high-net-worth donors, and/or innovative financing approaches.
  • Experience using evidence, cost-effectiveness data, impact measurement, or technology-enabled performance management to strengthen fundraising and partnership propositions.
  • Experience developing new markets, channels, propositions, or financing models rather than primarily managing a mature portfolio.
  • Experience working across Sub-Saharan Africa or in similarly complex, multi-country operating environments.
  • Experience building high-performing teams with clear expectations, trust, and accountability.
  • Proven experience leading through change and building resilient teams using data and feedback.
  • Demonstrates strong influence to build cross-functional collaboration, alignment, and trust across teams and stakeholders.
What Success Looks Like in the First 12-24 Months
  • The CEO and Board have a clear, evidence-based growth thesis, priority markets, investment requirements, risks, and path toward $200M+.
  • RTV has secured consequential new commitments and expanded existing partnerships, creating a larger, more diversified, and more durable funding base.
  • Pipeline quality, probabilities, timing, and downside scenarios are credible enough to guide hiring, program commitments, and investment decisions.
  • A strong growth leadership team is in place with clear roles, standards, accountabilities, and repeatable operating systems.
  • RTV is increasingly recognized by sophisticated funders and development leaders as a proven, innovative, high-upside platform for reducing ultra-poverty at scale.
