Job summary

Motor City Community Credit Union seeks a Chief Financial and Risk Officer (CFRO) to lead financial stewardship and the enterprise risk program. This role directs forecasting, budgeting, reporting, and compliance, ensuring regulatory adherence and sound governance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Equivalent
  • Accounting Designation CPA
  • 10-15 years’ experience in a Financial Services environment
  • 4-5 years of Senior Management experience
  • Anti-money laundering/ATF experience is an asset
  • Enterprise Risk Management facilitation considered an asset
  • Must be bondable
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS reporting standards
  • Knowledge of Credit Union and Caisse Populaires Act, 2020
  • Policy development and maintenance experience
  • Senior oversight of AML/ATF regime
  • Experience working with a Board of Directors and Regulators
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, direction and financial/risk expertise to the organization.
  • Direct forecasting, planning & analysis, budgeting, reporting and business evaluation.
  • Ensure timely and accurate financial/compliance reports for management, Board, auditors and regulators.
  • Oversee Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) programs and capital/structural/market/liquidity risk.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership and Board to set risk indicators and tolerance.
  • Oversee compliance including AML/ FINTRAC requirements and governance.
  • Serve as liaison with FSRA and respond to requests; interaction with the Board as risk lead.
  • Develop long-term financial forecast aligned with strategic plans.
  • Lead finance and compliance departments; provide mentorship to the team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

In support of the Mission and Vision of Motor City Community Credit Union, the Chief Financial and Risk Officer (CFRO) is responsible for leading and managing the financial stewardship of the organization to ensure fiscal responsibility and maintain financial readiness. The CFRO is also responsible for the oversight of Motor City Community Credit Union’s Enterprise Risk Management regime and will be the contact person to the Board of Directors as it relates to risk.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide leadership, direction and financial/risk expertise to the organization, with responsibility for corporate finance structure, financial reporting, forecasting and business planning, risk management, setting financial policies and establishing financial targets to effectively measure success
  • Direct the overall forecasting, planning & analysis, accounting, budgeting, financial reporting and the overall evaluation of the business
  • Ensure timely and accurate financial and compliance reports for management and the Board of Directors, external auditors and regulators
  • Accountable for Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) practice, ensuring all programs are in compliance including capital risk management, structural risk management, market risk management and liquidity risk management
  • Collaborate with the senior leadership team and Board of Directors in establishing key risk indicators, tolerance levels and monitoring trends
  • Oversee the compliance function including anti-money laundering and all Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRAC) requirements
  • Responsible for the compliance governance function including all support for the Board, Committees and individual directors
  • Serve as key point of contact for the Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA) relationship manager including responding to all requests
  • Act as the point person between the Credit Union and the Board of Directors as it relates to risk,
  • Develop the long-term financial forecast plan that aligns with the Credit Union’s strategic and business plans
  • Oversee the finance and compliance departments and provide strategic leadership and mentorship to the team
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Equivalent
  • Accounting Designation (CPA)
  • 10-15 years’ experience in a Financial Services environment (Credit Union experience an asset)
  • 4-5 years of Senior Management experience
  • Anti-money laundering/Anti-terrorist financing experience an asset
  • Enterprise Risk Management facilitation considered an asset
  • Must be bondable
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS reporting standards
  • Strong knowledge of the Credit Union and Caisse Populaires Act, 2020
  • Development and/or maintenance of administrative and financial policies and procedures
  • Senior level oversight of AML/ATF regime
  • Proven ability to work closely with a Board of Directors and Regulators
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
  • Experience in strategic planning and execution
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, communication and relationship building skills
  • Proficient in time management, written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills
  • Ability to perform under pressure and work independently
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines as required
  • Computer proficient in Microsoft Office such as Word and Excel
  • Experience working in a unionized work environment an asset
