Position Overview

The University of Toronto invites collaborative, forward‑thinking leaders to shape the future as its next Chief Financial Officer. As part of the President’s leadership team, the CFO directs the vision and mission of the University’s financial management, reporting processes, internal controls, and institutional financial information systems. The CFO leads the Finance Division in modernizing and advancing operating procedures and the technology supporting the delivery of services.

With a team of more than 60 staff across financial services, procurement, and treasury, the CFO delivers broad‑based financial services and initiatives for the University as a whole, adhering to the highest legal, ethical, and professional standards. The CFO team works collaboratively with the campus community and external partners to build business partnerships that support the University’s wide range of activities.

Core Responsibilities
  • Lead the financial strategy, budgeting, and reporting for the University, ensuring alignment with institutional priorities.
  • Oversee and strengthen internal controls, risk management, and compliance frameworks.
  • Guide the development and maintenance of financial information systems and investment management.
Qualifications
  • Advanced degree and a relevant accounting designation, or equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Extensive record of exemplary leadership in a senior financial management position, preferably in a university environment or large public sector organization.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of financial management, risk management, reporting processes, internal controls, financial resources, and information systems.
  • Knowledge of investment management, real‑estate development, debt financing, and emerging financial technologies is desirable.
