Chemical Operator, Processing Facilities
Key Responsibilities
- Go out to clients’ sites to inventory, pack, and remove their chemical wastes.
- Prepare shipments of hazardous and non-hazardous waste for transport.
- Receive all client waste – both bulk liquids/solids and containerized.
- Take samples from waste vehicles and containers for lab analysis.
- Ensure waste is processed in a timely and safe manner.
- Ensure incoming waste conforms with acceptance protocol.
- Ensure safe operation and procedures are always followed.
- Complete paperwork properly & ensure it is submitted.
- Complete job hazard risk assessments.
- Ensure superior customer service is provided.
- Notify the Shift Supervisor/General Manager of any defects, damages, mistakes, errors, contamination, spills, other incidents, or accidents that are identified.
- Attend Household Hazardous Waste collection events to identify, classify and separate waste. Prepare necessary waste manifest documents for transport back to GFL’s facility.
- Other tasks as required.
Knowledge, Skills & Requirements
- Ability to read, write, understand, and communicate effectively in English.
- Proficient with computers, Microsoft Office suites, emails.
- Must be able to work day shift.
- Able to work weekend shifts as needed.
- Degree or Diploma in Chemistry, Chemical Technology, Environmental Technology, or equivalent.
- Familiarity with waste management regulations, Ontario regulation 347, Transportation of Dangerous Goods is an asset.
- Previous hazardous and non-hazardous waste management experience is an asset.
- Previous experience using various forklifts.
- Mechanical aptitude, including knowledge and use of hand tools is an asset.
- Must be motivated, able to multi-task, and work effectively in a team environment.
- Must be safety conscious and detail oriented.
- Must be willing and able to report to work clean shaven (respirator safety).
- Ability to follow procedures and execute work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to repetitively lift 40 lbs. above waist.
- Valid G class Driver’s license, with a clean driver abstract.
- Must be able to pass security clearances for government contracts.
