Qualifications

Chemical Operator, Processing Facilities
Key Responsibilities
  • Go out to clients’ sites to inventory, pack, and remove their chemical wastes.
  • Prepare shipments of hazardous and non-hazardous waste for transport.
  • Receive all client waste – both bulk liquids/solids and containerized.
  • Take samples from waste vehicles and containers for lab analysis.
  • Ensure waste is processed in a timely and safe manner.
  • Ensure incoming waste conforms with acceptance protocol.
  • Ensure safe operation and procedures are always followed.
  • Complete paperwork properly & ensure it is submitted.
  • Complete job hazard risk assessments.
  • Ensure superior customer service is provided.
  • Notify the Shift Supervisor/General Manager of any defects, damages, mistakes, errors, contamination, spills, other incidents, or accidents that are identified.
  • Attend Household Hazardous Waste collection events to identify, classify and separate waste. Prepare necessary waste manifest documents for transport back to GFL’s facility.
  • Other tasks as required.
Knowledge, Skills & Requirements
  • Ability to read, write, understand, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Proficient with computers, Microsoft Office suites, emails.
  • Must be able to work day shift.
  • Able to work weekend shifts as needed.
  • Degree or Diploma in Chemistry, Chemical Technology, Environmental Technology, or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with waste management regulations, Ontario regulation 347, Transportation of Dangerous Goods is an asset.
  • Previous hazardous and non-hazardous waste management experience is an asset.
  • Previous experience using various forklifts.
  • Mechanical aptitude, including knowledge and use of hand tools is an asset.
  • Must be motivated, able to multi-task, and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Must be safety conscious and detail oriented.
  • Must be willing and able to report to work clean shaven (respirator safety).
  • Ability to follow procedures and execute work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to repetitively lift 40 lbs. above waist.
  • Valid G class Driver’s license, with a clean driver abstract.
  • Must be able to pass security clearances for government contracts.
