Job Description
TheAccounting Manager leads the accountingfunction for the plant located near the Lac Saint Jean in Quebec. This positionreports directly to the General Manager of the plant and indirectly to theDirector, Finance in the corporate office located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.This role is an integral part of the site’s management team.The position offers a diverse and rewarding environmentand provides exposure to senior level decision making as part of the plantleadership team.
Responsibilities
- Provide advice andguidance to the GM in the financial decision-making for the management ofthe mill and forestry operations;
- Managementof the Accounting team;
- Preparemonthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and forecasting forthe plant ;
- Ensure financial records and system controls are in place andoperating effectively, in compliance with IFRS, SOX and Company policies
- Ensure and oversee theprocess and preparation of the final annual budget for the plant; prepareand examine expense analysis reports for variances from plans andforecasts; determine trends for expenses and potential improvementstherein; resolve anomalies and irregularities in the accounts
- Provide leadership in themanagement of working capital, including review and oversight of storesinventory management, and the optimization of payables without negativelyimpacting operations.
- Support managers in fixedasset management by: evaluating financial benefits and payback of capitalprojects; quantifying expected savings or returns on investment; preparingaccurate monthly capital asset continuity schedules including depreciationcalculations; and, post-completion project audits.
- Prepare for, manage, andsupport the site audits – internal and external
- Support continuous improvement initiatives andthe sharing of best practices by developing KPIs and analyses thatidentify areas of opportunity; help communicate the results of theseinitiatives to the management team; assist in reporting the results of these initiatives to corporatedepartments
- Manage payroll, accountspayable and receivable
- Actively participate inFinance group projects, assuming the role of project leader at the site.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Completed accountingdesignation (CPA, CMA, CGA, or CA )
- Familiarity with IFRS / GAAP
- Experience with computerized accounting systems, including advancedknowledge of Excel, Microsoft Dynamics AX, Longview (an asset for this position)
- Bilingual English,French (oral and written)
Experience
- Minimum five (5) years ofrelevant financial management experience in a manufacturing environment
- Experience with full cycle accounting, cost accounting and financialanalysisE xperiencein managing a team
- Strong work ethic and soundjudgment
- High attention to detail andaccuracy
