Job summary

DBM Vircon, a premier construction modeling, detailing, and digital engineering company, seeks an experienced Checker to join our Vancouver-based team. You will inspect drawings and models for drafting discrepancies, review RFIs, and ensure accuracy and compliance with standards.

With a background in steel detailing and strong collaboration skills, you will support project managers and modelers to deliver high-quality, on-time work across major projects.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years of relevant detailing/construction modeling experience.
• Experience with steel detailing and an understanding of construction drawings and related documentation.
• Proven experience performing checks on models/drawings and ensuring compliance with specifications and standards.
• Experience collaborating with project teams to ensure timely, accurate project delivery.

Responsibilities

• Check all details in models and drawings per design information, procedures, and standards.
• Perform back-checks on final drawings against original check prints for accuracy.
• Review RFIs and design questions to ensure proper incorporation into the model.
• Ensure adherence to country/project standards and DBM Vircon procedures.
• Collaborate with project managers, coordinators, and modelers for timely delivery.
• Provide guidance to modelers to improve skills and proficiency.

DBM Vircon’s Detailing team is growing, and we are currently recruiting for a Checker to join our Vancouver-based team. You will be responsible for checking drawings, models, and related information to identify drafting discrepancies for correction.

Key Responsibilities:

Your main responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

• Checking all details in models and drawings per relevant design information, drawings, procedures, specifications, standards, and regulations.
• Performing back-checks on final drawings against original check prints to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Reviewing Request for Information (RFI) and Connection Design Questions to ensure proper incorporation into the model.
• Ensuring adherence to relevant country and project standards, while following DBM Vircon’s drafting procedures.
• Collaborating closely with project managers, coordinators, and construction modelers to ensure the smooth and timely delivery of projects.
• Providing guidance and technical advice to modelers to improve their skills and proficiency.
• Approving and signing off on final models, drawings, checklists, CNC data, Bolt lists, and drawing packs.

Work Experience

• Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in the detailing and construction modeling industry, including experience as a modeler.
• Experience with steel detailing and a strong understanding of construction drawings, models, and related documentation.
• Proven experience in performing checks on models and drawings and ensuring compliance with design specifications and industry standards.
• Experience working collaboratively with project teams to ensure projects are completed accurately and on schedule.
• Experience with bridge projects is considered an asset.

Education/Training

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university or the completion of a steel detailing course, or equivalent education/training in a relevant technical field.
• Extensive industry experience combined with training certification in the field of steel fabrication, steel detailing or construction.
• A combination of work experience and relevant education will be considered.

Software & Technology

• Proficiency in relevant CAD software, such as Tekla, AutoCAD, ProSteel, StruCAD, Revit, and AutoPLANT.
• Experience with Navisworks for clash detection and coordination.
• Experience using proprietary applications such as JMS (or similar industry tools).
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
• Ability to learn new software and tools relevant to the role quickly.

The expected base salary for this position ranges from $75,000 to $100,000 CAD per annum. The final base salary will be determined based on factors such as the applicant's education, skills, competencies, and unique qualifications.
