New Westminster Surgical Centre, a division of Clearpoint Health, is recruiting for a permanent full-time Charge Nurse.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborates with all members of the health care team: Pre-Op, Peri-Op, PACU, and MDR Admin staff procurement
  • Assist with the management of OR slates by coordinating with your team regarding equipment use, identifying special equipment needs, and ensuring onsite availability of requested equipment. When needed, liaise with Vendors for implants, disposables, and equipment. Assist with procurement of goods.
  • Assists with the orientation and support for new Providers and staff to the facility
  • Monitor and order medications for the facility to ensure that standard medications, narcotics and special order medications are available for operational usage
  • Monitor Narcotics log books for accuracy
  • Overseeing the daily operational needs of the Facility including assisting with scheduling of Pre-Op, OR and PACU staff as needed, identifying arising educational needs and targeting performance issues for follow up
  • Work with the Anesthesia Leads and the Manager of False Creek in scheduling Anesthesia Providers to cover Slates New Westminster Surgical Centre
  • Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection control policies, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substances regulations
  • Develops educational processes and in-servicing to orient staff on the use of all new center equipment
  • Undertakes Quality Assurance initiatives in partnership with the Director of Operations to ensure the facility is always accreditation ready
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Completion of an accredited nursing education program combined with 5 years recent experience in an acute care operating room environment
  • Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) perioperative nursing certification / Completion of a post-secondary educational institution perioperative nursing program / Equivalent in education and experience
  • Experience in Pre-Op, PACU, ICU is an asset
  • Ability to perform consistently in a highly organized, rapid moving, complex environment
  • Ability to collaborate within the expectations of a highly complex integrated team
  • The ability to cope and effectively perform in stressful and/or emergent situations is essential
Physical Requirements
  • The work environment is physically demanding and may require different levels of physical exertion such as lifting and transferring patients
  • Ability to wear lead apron protection for an extended period
  • May work in challenging and stressful circumstances such as in an emergency
  • Possible exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious diseases, chemicals and other safety hazards
