Job summary

Sphere Animation is seeking a Talent Character Design Supervisor to lead the creation of 2D characters for a series. You will oversee Character Designers and Cleanup Artists, translating scripts into visual designs and ensuring adherence to artistic and technical requirements.

You will collaborate with the Director and Producer, manage timelines, communicate progress, and mentor the team to maintain high-quality anatomy, perspective, and storytelling throughout production.

Qualifications

• Needs to be a resident of Ontario.
• Degree in animation or equivalent experience.
• Strong proficiency in Toon Boom Harmony.
• Ability to analyze a script and translate it into images.
• Imagination and esthetic sense for creating characters.
• Strong knowledge of anatomy and perspectives.
• Minimum of 5 years of character design experience in a series or film.
• Strong communication and leadership skills.
• Strong time management and ability to meet production deadlines.

Responsibilities

Job description

The Character Design Supervisor is in charge of creating the graphical representation of the characters in a 2D animation series. This person oversees the conception process that brings the characters to life. He/she supervises and approves the work of the Character Designers and Clean-up Artists. He/she must respect the technical and artistic requirements given by the Producer and the Director.

Key Responsibilities:

• Analyse the script
• Along with the Director, determine all the designs to be created or reused (characters, props, FX), based on the script.
• Distribute the work equally among the Character Designers and Cleanup artists.
• Supervise the work done by Artists ensuring the quality level is met.
• Upon receipt of the final storyboard, add or adjust the designs from the model pack in order to complete it.
• Do the revisions requested by the Producer and the Director.
• Attend production meetings and communicate the relevant information to the team.
• Maintain ongoing communication with the Production Manager and the Director to inform them of the status of the work.
• Troubleshoot any problems and offer solutions.
• Provide regular feedback to team members in regards to their contribution.
