Job summary

The University of Manitoba's M.A.Desautels Faculty of Music invites applications for a Music Teacher (Sessionals) in the Chamber Ensemble course. This appointment runs from September 8, 2026 to April 9, 2027, with an hourly pay rate ranging from $70.09 to $90.66 (including vacation pay).

Responsibilities include weekly studio instruction, assessment of student performance, marking and grading, and providing constructive feedback. A Master of Music is preferred and a Bachelor of Music is required.

Qualifications

  • Master of Music degree preferred.
  • Bachelor of Music degree required or equivalent.
  • Experience teaching at university level is an asset.
  • Strong English communication skills.

  • Weekly studio instruction and assessment of student progress.
  • Marking and grading assignments and performances.
  • Provide constructive feedback to students.
  • Coordinate chamber ensemble scheduling.

Key responsibilities:
  • Weekly individual studio instruction, assessing student performance and progress, and overseeing student performance preparation
  • Marking and grading of assignment, exams, or performances.
  • Providing constructive feedback to students.

Qualifications:
  • Master of Music degree is preferred.
  • Bachelor of Music degree is required, or acceptable equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
  • An established record as a performer and a history of successful music teaching at the university level are assets.
  • Background/specialization in subject area required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in the English language are required.
