Job summary

Renfrew Educational Services in Calgary is looking for a Certified Hakomi Therapist to support their various programs. This part-time position (0.2 FTE) aims to empower children and youth with disabilities through tailored educational programs.

The ideal candidate should have a Master's degree in Psychology and experience in the Hakomi Method, alongside a commitment to creating a supportive and inclusive environment. For 52 years Renfrew has offered a wide range of programs and services to children and youth from Calgary and surrounding areas. We are currently accepting applications for a permanent part-time (0.2 FTE) Certified Hakomi Therapist to join our team immediately to support the various programs in our agency. Please note the annual schedule is 10.25 months ending June 30, 2026 this school year. We resume programming on August 25, 2026.

The ideal candidate will have experience in Hakomi Method and understanding of core principles such as mindfulness, non-violence, body-mind integration, and unity & organicity.

Key Responsibilities

• Work in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to plan and carry out programs.
• Enable and support learning for the youth and child and family members in the school, home and community.
• Develop treatment goals to assist in determining therapeutic progress.
• Review therapeutic interventions with parents and staff on a regular basis.
• Supporting parents through parenting concerns and challenges, offering resources and strategies from a trauma-informed and strength-based perspective, and focused on parenting skills, decreasing risk factors, increasing protective factors and functional capacity.
• Documentation/record keeping: record observations/complete progress notes, document direct/indirect time, write service summary reports or assessment reports, summarize recommendations and monthly kilometers
• Reports and other client documentation.
• Service planning and goal setting.
• Client advocacy and follow-up services with other organizations/health care providers.
• Consult with funders, partners in the community (as needed).
• Ability to apply Hakomi Method core principles, including mindfulness, non-violence, body-mind integration, and unity & organicity, within practice.
• Utilized mindfulness-based, present-moment awareness techniques to support children and youth in exploring emotions and behavioral patterns in a calm inner experience.
• Integrate body-centered approaches by observing and working with physical sensations and nonverbal cues in therapy.
• Facilitate gentle, experiential interventions to support insight, emotional processing, and self-awareness.
• Support children and youth in identifying and understanding unconscious patterns shaped by past experiences, particularly in trauma-informed contexts.
• Adapt Hakomi interventions to meet the developmental needs of children and youth.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to incorporate Hakomi strategies into treatment planning.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Psychology; current registration and good standing with the College of Alberta Psychologists.
• Familiarity with the Canadian Code of Ethics for Psychologists, Code of Professional Conduct, Principles for Psychological Testing, Family Enhancement Act, Mental Health Act, Persons with Disabilities Act.
• Experience in Hakomi Method and understanding of core principles such as mindfulness, non-violence, body-mind integration, and unity & organicity.
• Experience with trauma-informed practice knowledge and experience.
• Experience in counselling with children and youth with special needs and their families.
• Experience with assessment, intervention and counseling in numerous areas (psychoeducational, social/emotional, behavioral, Autism, FASD, Learning Disabilities etc.).
• Knowledge of Developmentally Appropriate Practices.
• Experience working in community health or Primary Care Network considered an asset.
• A good listener, with strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Must have a vehicle, valid Alberta Driver’s License, and a clean driving record.
• A reliable vehicle, auto insurance with a minimum $2,000,000.00 liability and driver’s license is required.
• Must have professional liability insurance.

Pre-Requisite Security Clearance Documentation

• Successful candidates must provide us with a valid ‘Calgary Police Check with Vulnerable Sector’ dated within 3 months prior to their start date.
• ‘Intervention Record Check through Alberta Child Services’ is also required, however, we can support you with completing this during your onboarding.
