Right now we’re looking for a Part time Certified Asthma Educator to work in our Maternal & Child Program.

Reporting to Manager, Paediatric Outpatient Clinic, the Asthma Educator works as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide excellent care to paediatric clients with Asthma and other lung diseases.

The Asthma Educator establishes strong communication pathways between clients, family physicians, specialists, hospitals and other community and agencies.

Responsibilities
  • Collaboratively improves the operation of the clinics by evaluating processes, workflow, and participating in other quality improvement activities such as chart audits.
  • The Asthma Educator performs Spirometry tests and assists with education for patients and patient’s family.
  • The Asthma Educator maintains and performs calibrations on Spirometry equipment, Oxygen Saturation Monitor and supplies all the while adhering to Universal Precautions and Infection Control practices.
  • Maintain accurate records of clients’ therapy using electronic medical records (EMR) and spirometry reports; facilitate and assist in developing individual education sessions.
  • Serve as a resource to the team.
  • Ordering of supplies including samples and other devices as needed.
Requirements
  • Member in good standing with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario
  • Practice in accordance with the standards of professional practice as outlined by the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT) and the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario (CRTO).
  • Eligible for membership with the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists
  • Current Certified Respiratory Educator (CRE) or Certified Asthma Educator designation required/Asthma Educator
  • 5 years of experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist
  • Currently possess Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification
  • Experience in pediatric respiratory assessment, Pulmonary Rehabilitation
  • Demonstrates effective time‑management skills and able to quickly make decisions to solve problems as required; ability to work independently
  • Excellent computer literacy and Microsoft applications such as Excel, Word and Outlook, Electronic Medical Records
  • Must have strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Other languages an asset
  • Strong technical skills in Spirometry testing
  • TEACH Trained, familiar with the OMSC and STOP with CHC
