Job summary

Extendicare Mississauga is seeking a dedicated Recreation team member to enhance residents' quality of life through engaging individual and group activities. You will plan, implement, and evaluate programs, and work under the supervision of nursing staff to ensure safe, meaningful experiences.

The ideal candidate holds a Recreation and Leisure Services or Gerontology diploma, demonstrates strong communication, and can manage time independently while supporting geriatric residents, including

Qualifications

• Diploma or degree in Recreation and Leisure Services or Gerontology.
• Strong written and verbal communication and documentation skills.
• Experience in individual/group program planning, implementation and evaluation for well and cognitively impaired.
• Experience in care planning and resident assessments.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
• Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate new ideas, resident programs and volunteer initiatives.
• Knowledge/experience with geriatric population, esp. cognitive impairments.

Responsibilities

• Plan, implement and evaluate activation programs for residents.
• Set up and clean activity areas and transport residents to programs.
• Monitor residents during programs and report changes to Supervisor/nursing staff.
• Participate in development and revision of programs under Supervisor guidance.
• Maintain program and resident records per department policy.
• Communicate participation by residents to registered staff.
• Work cooperatively with other departments to meet resident needs.

This position is for our Extendicare Mississauga.

What you’ll be doing

• Plan, implement and evaluate both individual and group activation programs based on assessed needs and as assigned by the Supervisor.
• Set up and clean activity areas as necessary and transport residents to and from programs.
• Monitor the behavior and condition of residents during programs and report any significant changes to the Supervisor and nursing staff as appropriate.
• Participate in the development and revision of programs under the guidance of the Supervisor.
• Maintain program and resident records according to department policy.
• Communicate participation by residents to registered staff.
• Work cooperatively with other departments to meet resident needs.

What you bring

• Proof of successful completion of an approved Recreation and Leisure Services /Gerontology Diploma or Degree program required.
• Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, as well as excellent documentation skills.
• Knowledge and demonstrated experience in one-one/group program planning, implementation and evaluation for both well and the cognitively impaired.
• Knowledge and demonstrated experience in care planning and resident assessments.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
• Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate new ideas, resident programs and volunteer initiatives.
• Knowledge and/or experience in working with the geriatric population especially those with cognitive.
