Job summary

A leading food manufacturer in Winnipeg seeks a Central Laboratory Technician Level 2 for its Quality Assurance department. The role involves performing laboratory tests, checking ingredients, conducting internal audits, and collaborating with the Quality Assurance Manager. Ideal candidates will have a background in laboratory work and food manufacturing, a degree in Food Sciences, and strong problem-solving skills. This is a full-time position with a daily work schedule of 10:00 am to 8:00 pm.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a laboratory and food manufacturing environment is an asset.
  • Familiar with Internal Auditing and Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English.

Position Title : CLT (Central Lab Technician) Level 2

Work Schedule : - 10 : 00am-8 : 00pm

Department : Quality Assurance / Quality Control

Supervisor : QA Manager

Starting pay scale : $23.00

This is a non-union position

Responsibilities and Expectations to include, but are not limited to
  • Perform the following in-process tests : % moisture, % oil, % salt, FFA of oil, finished product defect analysis.
  • Checking of incoming ingredients and packaging samples.
  • Perform Laboratory Round checks that include but are not limited to proper packaging & seasoning being used, code dates and weights.
  • Perform Metal Detector tests and verifications
  • Periodic internal audits and verification of standard operating procedures.
  • Update, maintain and circulate laboratory documentation relating to lab tests and specifications
  • Calibrates and trouble shoots malfunctioning laboratory equipment
  • Hold non-conforming products, provide sampling results, prepare necessary records,
  • Document all analytical results, deviations, and corrective actions in the designated forms.
  • Evaluate retention samples for sensory quality and product quality
  • Investigate Customer complaints with the aid of the Quality Assurance Manager
  • Order laboratory supplies / chemicals and maintain inventory records
  • Review daily production records, ensure corrective actions are completed and relevant data entry is updated in the computer files
  • Collects and sends products and environmental samples for validation and customer requests
  • Inform management of any issue that may compromise the food safety or quality of the product in a timely manner.
  • Performs other functions and duties as required
Job Qualifications

Previous experience working in any laboratory and any food manufacturing environment is an asset. Good simple mathematics skills and proficient computer skills. Minimum, a degree in Food sciences or better would also be an asset. Familiar with Internal Auditing, Good Manufacturing Practices, Standard Operating Procedures, SQF 9.0 system, Good Laboratory Practices, and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points.

  • Walk and stand continuously for the full work shift is part of the job (8 hours or up to 12 hours per day when overtime is required)
  • Ability to walk up stairs
  • Effectively writing and communicating in English with other team members and supervisors
  • Proficient computer skills (Word for writing, Excel for data, Outlook for Emails)
  • Detail oriented
  • Excellent problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work 40 hours per 5 day week and overtime during the week and on the weekend as per schedule
