What does a CBSA Shift Supervisor in Etobicoke do?

As a CBSA shift supervisor, you will be responsible for leading a team of security guards, monitoring people who have arrived at the airport who are experiencing immigration complications and cannot officially enter the country and who are deemed to be a risk to others.

In this role you will:

  • Manage and lead a team of tactical security guards, ensuring they are protecting people and securing the site with compassion and a focus on de-escalation
  • Plan, direct and ensure the smooth running of operations at the site
  • Develop and implement procedures and policies for security operations
  • Ensure the protection of people, assets, and property
  • Escort people within the facility, using restraints to ensure the safety of everybody
  • Demonstrate empathy and compassion and recognition that you are working with individuals under stress
  • Observe, monitor, and report on behavior of detainees
  • Conduct regular foot patrols – both indoor and outdoor facilities
  • Utilization of tactical training to de-escalate potentially dangerous situations

This work requires vigilance, efficiency, but also a talent for customer service and compassion as you will be working with people within a vulnerable situation.

Qualifications to become a CBSA Shift Supervisor in Etobicoke
  • Security Supervisor experience, managing a team of 10+ security guards
  • 1 to 3 years experience in personnel management in a unionized environment
  • Experience in a healthcare setting is considered an asset
  • A valid Ontario security guard license
  • A valid and current First Aid/CPR certificate from a WSIB-recognized training provider
  • Canadian citizenship or 5-years permanent residence status
  • Minimum high school diploma from a recognized education provider
  • Ability to pass a Public Works Clearance and a Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Available to work flexible hours, in a full-time or part-time capacity
  • 2 year experience working in a vulnerable sector
  • 2 year tactical security guard experience
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership capabilities
  • Experience working in a high-stress environment with quick responsiveness to emergency situations
  • Understanding of the importance of conciseness, security, and safety
  • A minimum of one (1) year experience in providing care and control of individuals (working in a field directly related to law enforcement, court services, hospital orderly, or private security services) or one(1) year of experience specifically working on a security guard contract with the CBSA at an IHC or providing care and control of CBSA individuals
  • Past employees who worked at the Immigration Holding Centre are encouraged to apply
